I wonder how many Rolex ADs dread a buyer taking out his Amex charge card when it comes to paying for the new watch

I work out a deal with my AD so that he gives me a good price on the watch and my Amex card stays in my wallet

Lol.

Glad this thread turned into a joke, not what the OP intended it to be.

Got rid of mine years ago, don't need to pay for extra attention and snob appeal.

I think the black amex is cool. Yes it costs $2,500 per year (at least in USA), but there are some extra benefits over the platinum card. Plus, the feel and heft vs. the Platinum card is striking.

Substitute a Sub-C Date for your GMT and I could post the same photo.

When are we getting new cards?!? Will be happy to be rid of Amex, I use only one card and there are a few places I go where they do not take it.

Fourth?!?! Wow! Guess I've been lucky or gentle with mine. Had it this chip card for over 1.5 years no issues. The chip is scratched all to hell though

IOU Casio FTW!

The chips are indeed delicate and a PITA. We've had them in UK/EU for over 10 years now and I've just got into the habit of replacing all my cards every year at least to prevent the awkward situation of finding it doesn't work when you need it to.

Quite right. Perhaps there should be a new "Watch Out" section, but for bad taste.

My spending doesn't quite meet the requirements for the Centurion card.

ha ha this is the best

Honestly never really got the point of the Black Card. Yea ok it's cool with its stigma and prestige but really is that fee justified?

If you want heft get the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card-$95 Fee

I do have a Platinum Amex but mainly for points and lounge access-that's only justifiable due to the points paying off

At the end of the day its just a credit card-not really something we should brag about using

I use my debit card, try not to get myself in too much debt. I like to be stress free!

I rely on my debit card for most purchases unless I need product protection with a large purchase.

Hey OP.

Is it true you have to spend a certain amount on food and entertainment to keep the Black Card? My buddy mentioned that before and I was curious.

I have a friend that has one. The fee is $2500 and I think he said that he was spending north of $300,000 a year on an Amex platinum card before he got the invite. Not sure that there are hard and fast rules but you have to spend a bunch.

Strangely, what they value the Hilton Honors Diamond Membership at is very accurate.

I stay at least 1 night a week at the Embassy Suites and earned Diamond Membership with my stays between the end of May and end of December last year. Figured I spent about $4,000.

Used some points for an upcoming pleasure trip and they were worth about 10% of my spending that it took to earn them.

Now when I check in each week, I not only get free internet, and 2 bottles of water, but also 2 sodas, a sweet snack, and a salty snack. If we figure I stay 50 times a year, that's 100 bottles of water which are at least $3.00 each to purchase in the lobby, same for sodas, another $300, and 2 snacks are probably $5, so that's $850, plus the 2 free room nights I earned, another $400, so that's worth $1,250 a year.
