If they discontinue the SS version the next available option with a metal bezel is White Gold. That alone puts a floor on the SS pricing, like the Pepsi GMT in White gold did for SS GMT models. New ceramic while nice takes to it a much sportier level, not everyone wants that full on sport look. Ironic that the new Daytona now looks very similar to the least popular ones that never really sold very well in their day.

I love them all! The new one makes me less likely to try and go out and buy a vintage 6263. I love the look with the new ceramic black bezel. Best of the old with all of the new.

I absolutely love the 116520. In my opinion it is a classic already.

I think it will go down in history as the perfect, most refined Daytona before it entered the new ceramic age.

Back in 2005 I looked at two cars. The one I purchased a Porsche Cayman S I paid £48k for and can now be bought for circa £15k. The one I should have bought at £57k, a Ferrari 512TR now trades for over £250k.

Condition, supply and the original price you paid for the item are everything when it comes to an investment.

I like my 165200 and expect it will becoming increasingly valuable when supply stops and it becomes a 'classic'. First automatic Rolex calibre chronograph etc.

The ceramic is a very different looking watch, think Ferrari 550 (and yes I did skip the hideous 512M)

116520 Kind of a transitional watch...not the 16520 with the unique movement and not the ceramic which is clearly the direction Rolex has gone....nice watch still.

But the market has other ideas. Look at the 16610 and 14060 sub. There are a bazillion out there and they keep going up up up.

I thought the same about the 16710 GMT...it will never be "valuable" because there are sooo many out there.

Nope...market says differently. Prices continue to rise...
Only because some people don't like the Maxi case of the 116610 and 114060. The Daytona case isn't changing only the bezel. Movement is the same also. Look how many Daytona's have already shown up on ebay and other auction sites people are trying to dump them asap to get the Cermaic. I think we see the price of new and used current model Daytona come down and more than people are willing to admit.

I have been monitoring the Daytona market for a few months and there is not yet an increase of watches for sale. Imagine as we get closer to the actual release of the SS DaytonaC that will increase, but perhaps not so much as many here are stating that are adding rather than flipping to get the DaytonaC

Agree. It is The 512TR, upgrade on Testarossa and then they shoved the V12 in the front.

I don't think that any of them are or will be particularly collectable. Rolex produces way too many for that to happen. The reason that the resale price has stayed up is due to the cost of the new models creeping up on a regular basis. Now that the new C. Daytona won't have a price increase makes me wonder how that will influence the used market.

Well if any modern Daytona has a chance, it's the Zenith models.
Far many 4130 produced with far more dial options.

I'll be keeping my black dialed 116520 forever. Apart from this being my "military watch" that I bought overseas while I was in the Navy (wore it to work every day as a young E-5), in my head I always thought black bezels belonged on Speedmasters, and putting one on a Daytona was an afterthought on Rolex's part to try and keep up. Call me crazy but I would take a 6265 over a 6263 any day of the week, I think the steel bezel makes these watches look much sleeker, understated, and smaller than their alternate bezel counterparts. And it's the original configuration they came in.

Having said that I do like the ceramic/white combo better than steel/white, I still think a black dial 116520 is my favorite of them all. Hopefully Rolex stops production and we'll see metal bezels become more exclusive down the road.

Around 2010 when everyone was doing cartwheels for the sub-c, there were people on this forum who were advocating keeping their 16610 stickered and putting them in a safe for 5-10 years (there were also those who said that Rolex made a bunch so don't waste your time).

6 years later and my colleague bought a lnib late model 16610 for $4570.

I'm not trying to necessarily equate the sub and the Daytona because I believe that the sub was likely made in much greater numbers. I'm more so making the point that someone always thinks that the outgoing model will be worth a mint a decade after its discontinuation. And it seldom ends up being the case.

I think there will be a fan base that will continue to maintain the price on the secondary. Lots of people will still prefer the SS bezel.

Good point, Muzz. Let me add, that fan base for the 520 may grow. I'm not much of a chrono guy and like a date function so have not had paid much attention to the Daytona historically. But the new one is a stunner. My latest notion is to pick up a 500C white dial and acquire a black dial 520. Prior to the 500 release had had little to no interest in the 520. Now I do.

As much as I respect and enjoy the new ceramic bezel, I am partial to my SS. It's just a damned fine piece of candy.

I'm so glad I buy watches to enjoy and use everyday. I don't think about resale values because I'll never sell my pieces. If they wind up growing in value, that's great for my kids or whoever else will get them one day.
