Right on ... My wife ia a big wine afficionado ... So I've had this Chardonnay multiple times and it Is a very good white wine .. Also try Chateau St. Michelle Chardonnay ... Very crisp and smooth to my taste buds . Not too pricy at all either ... |

Calling CHARDONNAY. aficionados and experts
Gerardo, Any of these I would suggest. We like them buttery and oaky. I have other suggestions too if you are interested.

Ferrari-Carano Chardonnay Reserve is trendy but still my usual choice. However I stumbled on a new label recently that is 1/3rd the price and almost as good. It's called Albertoni Chardonnay but you can't buy it in stores, only online or if you are a distributor. My friends love this wine and some are big wine snobs. I don't tell them its only $11 a bottle.

I find that many Chardonnays are over-Oaked. That "super buttery" flavour is not wine but oak, and there has been history of reputable makers adding oak chips and even oak extract to the wine.
I'd encourage you to try a Chablis (Grand Cru or Premier Cru) for a good example of unoaked Chardonney. For well balanced oaked Chardonneys I like Côte de Beaune, particularly Meursault or Chassagne Montrachet. |

Far Niente has been mentioned a couple of times. They're good at the "low end". Nowadays, that's about $50 retail.
Aubert makes some wonderful Chardonnays, but they have complexity more so than richness. Marcassin makes the most expensive Chardonnay in the US. Their 2012 vintage got a 100 point rating from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, which puts it in rare company for New World white wines. And if you want to expand your horizons a bit beyond just Chardonnay, the whites from Sine Qua Non can be absolutely scrumptious.

Rombauer as some have suggested is great for the money $30-$35, I also like Cakebread, Far Niente, but the best IMO are White Burgundy...

I may come off as a European Snob... But IMHO, the best Chardonnays are French.

If you're dead set on new world, Brosseau from Copain is pretty good. It comes from the Chalone AVA. Wells Guthrie does a pretty good job of giving you new world feel with a touch of old world restraint. The DuPratt is pretty decent as well.
You might also try the Mayacamas from Mt. Veeder. If you can get 2012 or prior, its with their previous winemaker. |
