I have a super sneaky suspicion that my AD would do the same thing. I also "#1" on their list.

And I also do a lot of business with them.

Truthfully though, I am not sure that I would care. It is a tough world and AD's have to deal with a TON of BS.

They now finally have a watch that everyone really really wants to get. So instead of tons of people shopping for the best discount, they are in the drivers seat.

AND they want to please everyone. Especially their bigger customers.

IMHO, cut them some slack. Call them out on it, tell them that you totally understand but that you are understandably disappointed. I bet it will work wonders.

But for sure, don't sweat this. Its just a watch. And no one is purposely disrespecting you. They are doing the best they can.

You should have taken a picture of the watch / warranty card and sent it over to them, asking why it wasn't on your wrist yet.

I like your suggestion. I bet if you approach it in this manner they will have even more respect for you as a person & customer and get you that Daytona very quickly.

Don't jump to conclusions. Phone the store and tell them. If they admit to it, never go back there (and let them damn well know that you won't be back).

and if they don't admit it, either they're lying or the guy with the ADs bag, and brand new daytona-C in the same area as the AD is lying.

It's possible the random guy is lying, but why would he?

Anyway, I would probably have more respect for the AD if they admit to it and offer a make good.

I would go into the store and discuss it with them calmly and be sure to point out that you were lied to when told that they were still waiting for the 1st one to come in. See how they handle that and then decide if you continue to do business with them or go somewhere else.

Unless your guy / gal is the sales manager or store owner, it's a very real possibility that someone else sold that watch without your guy's knowledge. In the end though, I wouldn't be too upset. Perhaps initially I'd be a little disappointed, but in the end, it really isn't that big of a deal. If not for this website building its own hype, I'd bet most of us wouldn't be as excited / addicted as we are in general and about this watch in particular. Almost reminds me of the Panerai craze several years ago. Talk about some disappointed people!

Seems the "you are #1 on the list" is the new "Rolex is raising prices any day now" pitch from AD's.

I agree with all of this. The main issue I would have is if they in fact did lie - the whole "we didn't get one yet" line while they apparently did.

My AD management is playing some kind of game with the one they got - I think the salesman I deal with was frustrated about it - and what annoyed me is I felt I was being fed a line of BS about it. Be honest, tell me there are others being taken care of. I'll be pissed but I'll "get it" and get over it. But don't play games and lie.

A. It's just a watch.
B. I find it odd you aren't on a first name basis with your salesperson's manager or the AD owner if you're one of their best customers? I'm guessing those that do have that rapport are getting the watches first before they start on "the list."

When I asked when I'd be getting one I was told "you'll get one this year, but all you guys think you're way more important than you really are. Just be patient."

absolutely right, lying to a customer who has spent that sort of money is just inexcusable.

I hear you, and I can relate.

However, we can never tell exactly what happened in many situations. Maybe someone just did not know what went down.

And maybe someone did lie. But it is possible that they were stuck between a rock and a hard place. And they thought that it would never come out at that they lied and it would be no big deal.

They are not necessarily playing games. It is possible someone just got nervous and this was the easy way out, hoping not to piss off a customer. But sometimes, that is inevitable.

I still say address it, but be empathetic. My guess is that this is the best, fastest route to ultimately getting what you want.

It is what it is. What sucks is it's hard to just get the deposit back and leave knowing the huge lists all the other ad's already have. Just take a deep breath and be patient. Ask them about what happened, but I wouldn't be super upset about it.

My problem is that they lied to you. Get to the bottom of that first, then decide where to do business. I actually think that in this situation putting down $1k was not a good idea, in their mind you are definitely buying from them so they can make you wait, the other bloke might have purchased his somewhere else if they didn't sell to him.

I would wager the customer you met a personal friend with the owner of the store and the watch never made it to the sales floor.
If would calmly address this with the salesperson and ask him to relay your conversation to the owner.
At the ADs I do business, the owner calls the shots, not the saleperson.
You gain nothing by confronting the saleperson imho.

Walk in and get your deposit back. Then when the fake-smiled Manager asks why, explain to them exactly why. That you do not do business with LIARS.

Then take your 6 figure business elsewhere, where it is TRULY appreciated.

It's good that people emphasise being calm and polite; in the end it's just a mass-produced watch, that's all. The rest is a kind of consumerist hysteria. Who really knows about all these 'lists' , or what jewellers really think.
My own approach is that if a watch is on some sort of 'list' I buy something else. Goodness knows, there are plenty of great watches to choose from. Something for everyone.

I'd call and speak to the manager. If they say they are still waiting for their first one, I would call them out on it, ask for my money back, and take my business elsewhere. I wouldn't even give them a chance to earn it back. When I spend 100K at a place I expect to be treated with repspect.

No doubt. If a Rolex salesperson said that to me I would never buy another Rolex again from that AD for the rest of my life. More than that I would tell every single person I talked to that would listen for at least a month and then I would tell every WIS person I know for the rest of my life. Wow. Unbelievable
