Always cash if it's in the 10k ish range.
Otherwise, CC and paid off right away.

AMEX Platinum. The safeguards and the points are worth much more than a small discount.

I've always paid cash unless it was a non local deal, then bank wire.

Amex usually as I like the points. Once I did use a Wells Fargo credit card which the AD offered me. It gave me 6 months interest free.

It's not against the card company's policy to charge less for a cash purchase, it's against their policy to charge MORE for a card purchase.

Just like its against PayPal's policy to advertise a price and then say "PayPal accepted +3% fees", and yet that is rampant across the forums.

Credit Card, or if it's through a trusted online seller, Bank Wire.

Are ADs giving discounts when using credit card? They always tell me they can't. Was curious about that.

Good to know that ADs get smaller credit card charges than other stores.

Thanks for your insights. I see that credit card and surprisingly cash are the clear winners.

If your AD offers the same discount whether you pay by cash or credit card then it is a no brainer and of course you should pay with plastic to enjoy the points/miles/cash back, depending on which game you are in.

In my case the AD offered to add 2 additional per cent of the agreed rebate if I paid with cash/cheque/wire. Then I crushed the numbers and thought that in my case 2% cash was better than points/miles given that I can buy most points/miles for less than 2 cent each (American Airlines miles, Avios, Alaska, Starpoints...).

I always negotiate the price before paying. Never had anyone tell me I cannot use a credit card.

Business is business.

I've only bought one watch from an AD. And they offered 1 year of interest free payments, which I took. All my other watches have been bought from Trusted Sellers here, grey dealers or from e-bay. Have not gotten stung yet.

A new credit card or cards with signup bonus. Hard to resist enough points for business class roundtrip to Europe free with a $10k watch purchase. $200 off for cash or $200 on a cash back card can't compare.
