I know friends who would never buy anything used and some who never new. I for one don't one either way, as long as it's a reasonable deal.

If this is going to be your first Rolex, and do not expect to trade or sell it, I would suggest new. Otherwise, as long as you go through a trusted seller, there is no harm purchasing used.

As you are a new member and this forum has a habit of making members buy and sell and buy and sell and spend far more money than they ever envisioned when joining, I would go used or buy unworn with a good discount from a reseller. Take me, I only had 1 post once upon at time...

Depends on model, condition and price.
Impossible to answer your question.

So far I have bought used - mainly because the models I want are no longer in production. However - with some models, it would be hard/borderline dumb to buy new.
Example - polar dial 216570 Explorer II is ~$8k brand new at an AD. You can get one from trusted sellers on here with all the hang tags, warranty card, etc for ~$6k. Unless the "AD experience" is worth the extra 2k, I can't imagine buying one new. Flipside, a BLNR is rarely discounted even in the classified sections. I see them for $8.4k+ often. New is 8.9k or so. To me that's not worth buying used, but would buy new.

It's best to buy used from a financial standpoint. These watches will last a long long time and if they are gently used it will be like new. That being said I bought mine new because I didn't want the hassle of buying used and wanted something that was only ever mine.

Used and New are both good options. Don't feel bad about either one, do what feels best for you.

If you are new to Rolex and/or aren't 100% sure what will make you completely happy then buy used. As others have noted, by doing so you let someone else pick up the depreciation and, if worse comes to worse, you can sell the watch on without any loss and perhaps even a small gain.

I think each brand and within each brand each model there are varying "values" to be had.
With the watches you site - DSSD and SD4000. I would buy either of those pre owned. Simply because of the cost of the secondary market vs AD Retail cost. Also I think about how long I will keep the watch |

If you can afford it and you intend keeping the watch then I would say purchase new every time, if not or you intend to flip then buy used.

I am not a flipper and most of my watchers were bought used. Could argue that spending lots of money on a watch(es) is not wise though many of us here are an exception...
I've only bought one watch new and the reasons being a 40th birthday present, intention to keep it 'forever' and because it was bought tax free from an AD. So in short I would tend to buy used in most cases. |

I have bought new & used, and have been just as happy going the used route as the new. However, I think there is something special about going into an AD to buy at least 1 new Rolex.

I've done both. All depends on the situation. I buy where I can get the best deal on the watch I want. Typically used with stickers and a warranty dated within 3 months of when I am purchasing.

New or used
I end up buying new from AD this weekend!
The amount saved getting a used is not a lot and the concerns with fake components will drives me crazy. Iam glad I bought new. The experience of picking a new Rolex was amazing. Something I wouldn't forget easily. I felt a sense of achievement and already want to get another when the next big investment or event comes around. I bought a Rolex to celebrate my first year marriage and business and now taking on EMBA. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Slightly used, almost like new with a little scratches, so my feeling won't get hurt with my first scratch.

If you have the time to research the seller, patience for the watch you want to pop up and want to be smart by used in any degree, from BNIB grey Towson and older. Just keep in mind after a couple of years the watch should be devices and def. pressure tested. That adds to the bottom line.
If you want to get the watch tomorrow, zero night sweats if it's not a lemon, tempered with etc. or maybe want to negotiate a return policy if you really start hating the piece that you can exchange it, then just walk into a Rolex dealership, AD, done. Good luck and have fun on the hunt... |

Call me paranoid, or maybe I've spent too much time on the Watch Out forum. But the difference between slightly used and new is not worth not being 100% confident in my watch. Just because sellers are trusted does not mean they are authenticating the watch or know it's past history.
