I think both are fairly easy to get nowadays. I was a first time pp owner and I got my 5711 from an AD. Just by walking in and noticing it on display.

Well maybe from where you are, but just try getting one from any european country, basically impossible, they never happen to be in windows, there are huge waiting lists for them, really crazy, I think the Daytona is much easier to get...

Year wait at my AD. My Rolex ad offered me a Daytona C before it came out. I was even the first one to try it on at the store and turned it down as I am saving for the aquanaut. In hindsight I should have bought it and flipped it. It is a beautiful watch however and I'll be buying it later on once I don't have to pay Msrp + tax.

Might have to eat my words...feel vaguely guilty that a watch loved and desired by many and which wasn't even on my radar, resulted in my AD emailing me 2 days ago and I am the owner!

This is interesting. I'm located in Singapore too and have been sniffing around the ADs without much luck and am still on wait list. Could you share which AD outlet you purchased your 5711?

Both are hard in the UK 5711 is the hardest to get. For both you need to be local to Ad and a previous customer that’s just to get on the 5 year list.
Double sealed I guess the AD will open that for you and discard the brown paper box. My UK AD refused to let me have the opened box for 5167 and I will not get it for 5711 when it arrives soon. Apparently Patek have ordered that ALL worldwide AD's must destroy the little brown boxes or else. Something to do with fakes and flippers selling on at a profit, Apparently the brown boxes have barcodes and ID numbers and can be tracked to the AD. Not sure how true it is but that’s what I was told when I asked. I did think about going through the AD's trash later the night, but that seemed a bit weird: chuckle::chuckle |

I stopped into a grey market dealer in Tokyo last May wearing my 5711 white dial. The guy had both the black and white Daytona c’s, but he complained to me that he couldn’t get a 5711 anywhere.
In general, it seems like there are a lot more Daytona c’s floating around in the gray market than 5711’s.

In Austria for example you cannot get anymore on a waitlist for a 5711A, for a 5711R you have to wait a few years(around 3years)
The 116500 you can also get in the next 3-5years. Patek has also not so much dealers... so i think it’s much harder to get a new 5711 directly from the Patek AD |

Percentage wise in the gray market, its a 100% markup (or more) versus a 60% markup. Think that pretty much sums it up.

Until recently, 5711 was pretty easy to get especially the white dial.
SS Daytona’s have been hidden from the shelf since 2000. |

Today 5711 and it’s not even close.
Want a Daytona? Spend 20-30k at your Rolex dealer. Want a 5711? Spend 50-100k at your Patek dealer.

i wish that was the case down here for me with rolex. Maybe you know an AD i can spend 20k with and get a daytona at msrp because I'm ready for the black dial as well as a gold oyster flex and my AD wouldn't even look at me with a straight face when I asked for the bundle.

Point is that buying a day date will land most people a Daytona in the US, whereas buying an annual calendar won’t gurantee anyone a 5711. ADs have gotten wise to what holds value and what doesn’t and it’s harder to bundle with watches that are easy to resell for close to msrp.
