Take it from someone who just graduated college this past May, you are making the right decision to get another watch. College is filled with wild times, where you will hammered off your ass making poor decisions (at least it was for me ). People tend to forget the situations you will be exposed to. You obviously do not want to be wearing something that has a lot of value to you. You will meet a lot of shady people in college (public AND private), who wouldn't hesitate to steal your watch in a heartbeat (whether is $5,000 or $50..people steal beer for christ's sake). At the very least, your watch would get pretty banged up from weekends. I don't think insurance is the right answer as it seems to mean more to you than just the cost, something insurance can't replace.

I wore the Invicta 9937 during college, which is a sub copy (actually wearing it now). It was a great watch and I got tons of compliments on it. Then after I graduated, I bought myself a new sub. Remember, your first thought in the morning should be "Where am I and who is this person next to me?" not wondering if someone took your watch.

Enjoy the best years of your life. Best of luck

As much as I believe in wearing your Rolex everywhere, I'm going to step back and say don't wear it to school. I had a nice Seiko and I was nervous about THAT getting stolen. The most useful would be a Timex Ironman or a G-shock, but since you want an auto, look at Seiko, Orient or Citizen.

I like Kevin's recommendation, maybe you should consider picking up a Marathon? They're nice tool watches that are built like a tank and look great on the wrist.

Here are a few shots of my GSAR...

I would say to keep the Sub, but get used to having it on your wrist 24/7 so long as you are halfway careful with it aren't the type to get too smashed as to waking up not knowing where you are. Oh, but put it in your pocket if ever jaunting through the ghetto, or just avoid that part of town altogether. Don't take things for granted, though, items of even marginal value in college disappear faster than anything I've seen.

I agree. The 2254.50 looks very similar to the Sub, and you might be able to get a brand new one for 1500, but certainly a used one in your price range..

Here is my 2255.80 which is the same watch but with a blue dial and polished bezel.

Why not just wear the Submariner? If you keep it on 24/7 and don't get drunk out of your mind, there's no way anyone can steal it.

buy a used airking and call it a day. it's still a rolex and no one can tell unless you tell them. Either way a Rollie in college is not bad, but it's best if you follow you gut feeling and simply buy an AK to keep the subby at home. Good luck and have fun in college.

also try a few of the chase-durers, they can be had for quite little, but do have some of the presence of the Sub. i have one for going into bad neighborhoods, beaches, etc.,etc. have a look on-line, some can be as little as $200,- i agree that you would do well to have a substitute. things get crazy at school and nothing worse than having your great sub messed up. best of luck and make the next years really count, the world needs people with real education!

Buy a cheap Rolex 6694 cuz you get date feature and you only have to manual wind it every other day or get a Invicta 8926 for less than a hundred bux. Honestly, your at the top of the Rolex food chain with what you got. Enjoy

funny thing is i have a TT invicta sub lookalike but the crown wont screw down anymore and the gold plating is worn off of two of the links
seems like i might have to go up to 1500 to satisfy my criteria, but that one marathon watch is very cool.... any retail spots where thats available to look at?

Not so much the neighborhood. I saw kids whose parents were loaded who would swipe your CD's or whatever else. It's just a college thing. I don't care if it's Harvard or Jr. College. Your nice stuff WILL get stolen. Don't take nice stuff.

Er....you got a mobile? Times on that....don't wear a watch to college...much cooler.

Obviously the Sub is of great value (not just monetary) so do not take that to school, keep it safe locked up somewhere.....you'll appreciate it much more on holidays and end of college!

If you really WANT a watch on your wrist while all about you couldn't give a toss, buy a cheap solar Citizen or the like....tough, subtle, maintanence free and defo not flash.

Enjoy your studies LOL

Best regards David

Dude if you want a 'budget' watch that is still a beast and a good value, get a Tissot Seastar 1000. It is a diver's watch close to 44mm, Automatic (a watered down version of the same movement found in Omega Seamasters), has a date complication, and I use it when I go to parties and clubs/ bars where I don't know what the outcome of the night will be and leave my Sub or SD at home.

As a current college student, I don't think I'd be able to stomach leaving my watches at home in fear of losing them. I wear mine out everywhere, especially out to clubs and bars. Plus, at least I know that when I'm piss drunk, I'll know what time it is

I'll make a plug for the Hamilton Khaki too, or a used Omega Seamaster Professional.
