In the past week, I happened to be in the San Francisco boutique and the Hong Kong airport boutique - both were equally smug at a 2 year wait list. ADs have better customer service.

I gave 38k for the Pllaty and list for the 500s so total out lay £54500 , OK a lot of money but I could maybe sell the two 500s for £12500 each leaving me with a sub 30k platty. ![]() |

Yea the arrogance of the ADs is out of control. It has turned me off from buying the watch. I am on 5 different lists and it's amazing how arrogant they have all been, even the ones I have bought Rolexes from, it still doesn't matter. When you go in to ask they literally won't check the list.
I went into Fourtane in Carmel, California; supposedly John Mayer got his there. I'm on their list & when i went in to browse and check the list progress these two old sales women literally started grilling me on what car do i drive and what do I do for a living. SHOCKING, mind you I was wearing a brand new Sub. My friend who was with me and not a watch guy walked out and laughed. Will probably buy a different Rolex from somewhere else... |

In the Uk even Subs and Blnrs are hard to find .....So I guess paying a premium would be reasonable

I currently own a BLNR which i waited a few months for a absolutely love, considering a bluesy Sub if i cant get a Daytona C within the next year or so.
Unfortunately the Platona is out of my budget at the moment even though it is personally my favorite Rolex ever made, so building a "Good Relationship" with my AD is quite difficult. Seems like i'm just going to have to play the waiting game or invest my money elsewhere. Thanks for the help so far, my first post on these forums and certainly wont be my last. |

Chaps
Rolex have a history of keeping SS Daytonas very difficult to buy. These means that there is a constant waiting list that attracts investors and pushes prices upwards. It is alway good for a luxury goods maker to keep some of their goods hard to get quite simply because of the cache. This shortage will follow the 16520 and the 116520 in being almost impossible to buy and Rolex will have the joy of watching lots of people getting on lots of AD's waiting lists, all scurrying around trying to land that exclusive purchase. If you can't land a 116500, you may opt for a BLNR as a stop gap and so on. Rolex really know how to play the market to their own advantage. Regards Mick (16520 owner) |

Come to Perth Australia, go to AD Smales. Their wait list is 2.5 years and have a nice holiday into the bargain.

Hi,
I'm from the UK myself (Midlands) what I've found is that even the usual SS sports models like the Sub and BLNR are difficult to find outside of London. The Daytona no chance, I asked a couple of the dealers in Birmingham and was politely laughed at and told there was no point even adding me to the list as they had several hundred names on it already and were looking to receive 4/5 pieces a year. I've already done the leg work previously, back in May I called about 90% of the ADs in the UK over a weekend and was given waiting times from 5-20 years. It is impossible for now unless you want to go down the grey market route (which I'm sure you don't). Luckily I spend most of my time in Switzerland for a contract I'm working and managed to get to know the manager of an AD here and got my hands on a white face 116500LN a couple of weeks ago, but even in Switzerland its a similar situation, without having the link in the AD I'd be facing a similar wait! |
