As stated prior, both are great watches, but for an only watch I'd go with the GMT.
So much style and function in that one.

With a keen interest in watches so early in life, it is most likely that you will end up with both eventually. So, flip a coin.

I would probably go GMT. And then later on, get a PM sub.

Congrats in advance. For the iconic history, the Submariner. For the second time zone complication, the GMT Master II.

If you intend to dive with them, do take note of the water resistance 300m (Submariner) and 100m (GMT Master II).

I've owned both. I'd echo others and suggest that you try them on and see which fits your wrist better and which one is more fun to look at. At least for me, my first instinct is usually the right one. After that I just over think things. As for functionality, I think its all for fun, you'll likely never use either to their full capacity. Just get the one that makes you more excited when its actually on your wrist. Both are awesome so maybe you can have both at some point.

Word. Part of the reason I like the LN (I also really dig the green elements).

If you can get through college, you can certainly master a GMTII. Another alternative is a GMT with quick set date (for example, my 16700 comes to mind). I have family in Oz so simple choice is the GMT - extremely waterproof as let's face it who dives over 100M !!! Gets more positive comments and is less common than the sub. Can wear with sports clothes or a suit it's a one watch fits all lifetime addition to any collection or only Rolex wearer. I love it.

The GMT wears more comfortably due to the flatter case back. I've let a sub and sea dweller go and have the GMT LN as my only Rolex (for now).

I too prefer the LN over the BLNR and feel the classic black is more versatile.

Both great watches and hold value so no wrong answer. Hope that helps.

GMT in my opinion. Love the complication and the fit. 16710 allows you to switch 3 different bezels which can feel like 3 different watches if you like that option. GMTc is also cool with the green accents. I only snorkel and if I do dive it wouldn't be even close to 100m.

I've owned both both and still have LN, even over the BLNR I flipped. LN is more comfortable for the way it sits on my wrist. Even without the glidelock. Also on my wrist I think LN looks better and not has squareish and bulky like the sub. Also think that the bezel is much cooler!

Ok, I'll throw a monkey wrench into the mix. If you are set on black, why not give the SD4K 116600 a try. I love the Sea-Dweller, its a bit bigger and I love a couple of great features about it, especially the raised crystal.
