I think what makes the SD4000 less popular is the Higher price

I too am about to pick up an SD4k, had the call from my AD yesterday. I have always wanted one, but I also own the Deepsea blue dial. For me it is a very different watch, it will my daily wear, the deepsea has to be for the weekend! Enjoy yours.

Go for it and don't look back! Almost 2 years now on my wrist and I love it more than the first day I put it on. You're lucky to be able to get one at the current discounted prices, when I purchased mine it was only 6 months after its Basel release.

If budget was a consideration I'd take a SubC over the SDc. Luckily it wasn't for me as I much prefer the SDc.

I would go with subc over SDK but would choose SDK over DSSD

Normal buyers aren't TRF members/WIS....they see the subC pricing and will almost most certainly jump in without giving the SD another thought. The DSSD appeals to a lot of people wanting a larger watch that's certainly more unique than the others in the Rolex dive line....it's an either love or hate thing. So that leaves the SD stuck in limbo in the middle with no takers despite it being IMO the most balanced choice between water resistance, aesthetics (lugs/case shape), weight balance, dial readibility, and comfort (without the diver extension). But you'd have to really be "into it" to understand the choices....most people buying just want the more expensive shinier piece in the display or "what can I get for $xxxx."

This would probably change if Rolex introduced something unique for the Sea Sweller, such as a colored dial, a Comex commemorative or some such.

The SD has short lugs and the Explorer has a short minute hand. I have the same Explorer and would love the SD one day.

I would argue it is unique..

The only parts that are the same compared to the sub is the crown, movement and hands..

Bezel is graduated, dial is satin, the crystal is raised, the case throwsback to previous generations, the caseback is engraved, it has a HEV...

Fantastic choice. IMO, it's the best modern Rolex diver. For me, the DSSD is too big and thick .

And the Sub, though fine, doesn't look as good. The raised crystal of the SD ( as opposed to the crystal of the sub that sits flush with the bezel ) gives the watch more depth both from a side view and head on view. Like a cool vintage look. Not a flat plate look like the Sub. I also prefer the small gradations on the bezel of the SD4k.

Just a great watch.

After several months of research and visiting AD's I was committed to the SubC . . . until I tried on the SDc. Liked it much better! But the price . . . well. Hmm. I could spend several thousand on a watch and not be completely satisfied or spend a bit more and not regret the purchase.

Got the SDc and haven't been disappointed a bit! Glad I didn't settle for another watch just because it was cheaper.

Your not the average Joe if you can afford to but all 3 ;). Perhaps you are a little more well to do than the majority. Just speculation. Congrats on your purchases.

I felt the exactly the same. I was getting the Subc originally until I saw the SD in personal and compare them side by side. The Subc is an excellent piece as well but it looks a little flat and wide, due to the glass and wider legs. I am glad my wife being supportive of my final choice.
