You want advice, here ya go ... call smaller Rolex Ads a little further out from your house. When they talk to you about their "list," tell them you'll pay in half or in full as a deposit to prioritize your spot on said list. If they take it, you'll have your Daytona within a few months. Remember, most ads aren't wis'. They're business people. They've seen watches ebb and flow. They remember the hotness of the blue face milgauss which they can't move from their display cases now. And they have no idea when hot becomes cold. So cash on the barrelhead talks louder than a rush of phone calls in the March - May following Basel.

There are themes here that I've seen proven categorically wrong: Ads will take deposits over the phone. They shouldn't, but they do. Ads will bump the list that they told you about if you pay a significant deposit - even in a large metropolitan area. It's sketchy, but they will. Ads will send you a new Daytona by mail. They shouldn't, but they do. Ads will sell you a Daytona if you haven't bought squat from them before. Trust me, trust me, trust me, they will.

I speak from experience. Good luck. If you want it bad enough, grind and pound the phones. You'll get it, at retail, before the proverbial street lights come on. Or wait if it's not that important. Just letting you know that there is an alternative.
I purchased a decent number of watches from two ADs and offered to pay in full up front. No dice.

I've had the same experience where the dealer had no interest in my offer to pay in full. At Liljenquist in Tyson's and at Fink's, I had the same "no dice" response. They weren't budging. And l&b is my regular ad. But I was able to find some luck at a smaller ad where I ended up being first (my black dial came in June) and I was even able to buy another from a jeweler in the Midwest. But most importantly, I was told numerous times as I was on the hunt that there was a list and #1 was locked in but a half deposit would get me #2. I didn't even bother at those locations but it's worth noting those responses for those who are still trying to crack the Daytona code.

For most it's worth the wait through the traditional process at their ad. But for those who want to make a game of it, there is some there, there.

If you can secure a place on the list with no or a minimal deposit, why not get on the list. I am on a list with a Rolex Boutique for a 500$ refundable deposit. I will either get the watch or I will not. In the meantime, I simply forget about it. After all, it is just a watch.

Three things....... 1. If you love it, it's worth the wait. You won't be happy with anything else 2. Absolutely do not pay over retail for the thing. Its a mass produced product that will be around as is for 15 more years. No need to overpay. 3. The situation with the Daytona and the BLNR before absolutely solidifies for me the reason to try to buy from an AD and establish a great relationship. Then when the hottest thing comes out and the timepiece mgr or owner is your pal, wham, your given top billing. Just my .02.

It's a strange old world eh?

In today's market place we want everything NOW.
Gotta have it Now....why should we wait?

Hey, years ago you had no choice but to wait for what you wanted.

Therefore is the Daytona worth the wait? Each to their own answer
and I suppose patience.

However, for me, YES it was worth the wait.

The more people with less patience, the quicker those who have patience, gets one........Think about it

Good luck.

Be patient and persistent and you'll get one. Don't dare pay over retail because you will regret. I remember years ago when the Panerai 225 came out and it was selling over retail and impossible to get, well I got a list of all ads and pounded the phone and ended up getting one from a small ad at list. Sometimes the fun is in the chase. Good luck in your search.

Lastly, my mind keep telling me to get a SMP or something fun from Costco... But I am winning the battle so far and holding off...

Oh and funny enough, as this was mentioned in another thread a while back, if you buy a Daytona at my fav AD, they remove all stickers in the store (per Rolex), fill out the warranty card, will not ship, and monitor forums etc to see if you flip it. Seems hardcore, but when I talk to the timepiece mgr his reasoning is pretty simple.....the new Daytona is limited at the moment and he knows he will sell it...period. But he wants to make sure he sells it to someone in the community who is going to keep it in the community. Why sell it to someone in another state when there's a local right down the road who will buy it, love it, and keep it? I respect that. He even went so far to say, though not Rolex policy, if you are sold one and they find out you flipped it in short order, you're blacklisted. Hardcore, but I kind of like it.

Sorry but no watch is worth 'years' and the premium some are paying you might as well go PM not SS.

Totally subjective question, and most on this forum will answer in the affirmative. Personally, I'd rather have an El Primero chronograph if I were even into chronos in the first place.

That's crazy IMO. It's my watch and I do what I want with it. If I tire of it in a months time and want to flip it to buy something else that's my business, not the AD's.

Just register an account :)

The 114060 is a simple watch and I love it but part of me is saying if I buy the DaytonaC SS, I shouldn't keep the 114060 and stick with the one watch approach! So I will try to sell it. I do have all the documentation as I bought it from AD.

Friend I would like to impress upon you that many believe the daytona and submariner make the perfect 2 watch collection. The submariner for daily wear and to do everything with. The Daytona for the evening and when you want a little more bling. Or something a bit more special. Ultimately the decision is up to you but I would advise owning both for a couple of months if you have the funds. If you find that the sub isn't getting wrist time you can go ahead and sell it then.

Josh

+1

I don't quite understand why they're commanding such high list prices considering the sheer number of 116500's on the market right now.

This isn't even close to a comprehensive list of what's on the market, and there are 119 listed: https://www.chrono24.com/en/rolex/re...refId=116500ln

What's MSRP in the US, anyway? $12.4k?

As I get older I find I become more impatient, stands to reason as there is less of it left, but I'm still good at holding to a timetable I have set and not rushing, other's timetables I am far less tolerant of.

DaytonaC, is it worth it... the wait is so damn long...

I think a GMTIIC is a far better value and more interesting watch.

Worth the wait? It's not like we have a choice. But I would never pay a premium. If price increases so be it.

On the other hand, I wouldn't let any watch "bother" me so much. I'm sure there are many other watches on your short list, get those first and acquire the daytona later when they become available.

Couldn't have said it better. The OPs question is a funny one because of the circumstance. IMO, it's totally worth the wait, why not? Is it worth the premium? No.

How so? It's a mass production watch, not a limited edition.

Since I posted the Chrono24 link the # of listings there went from 119 to 123.

In the end, supply dictates pricing. Supply was super tight upon recent launch (albeit also artificially, per Rolex's practices), but it won't stay tight forever, and frankly 123 listings on Chrono24 doesn't equate to tight supply anymore to me. List prices tend to lag supply glut with luxury items (cars, handbags, watches).

Bet you a beer that you are wrong on that.

I personally don't care - I've got mine (at MSRP) and don't intend on flipping it but historically most SS sport pieces are a tough get at MSRP.

The more desired pieces like the Daytona or BLNR or Deep Blue are tough to get discounts on period.

I'll buy every discounted 116500 you can find. Mark it up to MSRP and we'll both be happy.
