FWIW, I have a tube that is at least ten years old. It seems to work fine.
I think Loctite publishes this for commercial uses. They won't guarantee it's any good outside these spec's, which transfers risk to the user if they use expired product. Anyone getting paid for work that requires Loctite would be wise to honor the shelf life, but the rest of us will probably be fine with the vintage stuff. |

222 might be ideal? but the blue 242 is fine, I had 242 in my bench when I was doing my internship at RSC. Never had an issue with any of the screws. And green for things like crowns. |

I'd say as long as it's not dried up it should be fine. I use the blue at work when repairing hospital beds not sure why it wouldn't work on a Rolex, it's not permanent. Listen to Vanessa, she is the expert.

Guys and girls, I know you all think it's hilarious but the truth is that maybe some of us know a little more about engineering and loctite applications than others.
I gave an accurate and honest answer based on experience using all the different grades of loctite and yet, even after Vanessa informs you all I was in fact correct you still feel the need to chip in with smart comment. Silly. Vanessa and SearChart are among only a few here who actually know what they are talking about and I thank Vanessa for saying what she did in defence of my factual info'. Most wouldn't have. Oh and for the record I'm not an 'auto mechanic' but I do rebuild engines. |

A fun read!
Just thought I'd add, I've never used any loctite, never will, and have to this day never had a problem, or a screw backing out. Use the correct screwdrivers, visually check them periodically, and things should be fine...
