I would go with the 16710 if I am to have only 1. Just happens the other Rolexes have some sentimental value attached to it, I get to keep them but the 16710 is hogging most of the wrist time now.

1) Gmt Complications
2) Versatility in inserts
3) Works well with oyster and jubilee and straps
4) Enough depth rating to be around water

The perfect all rounder.

Easily 16710. The most versatile and useful Rolex in my opinion.

Put on black dial and is as sleek as Sub but thinner and more wearable/comfortable, good for almost any attire. Coke and Pepsi bezels to change look to something less formal.

GMT function, can also be used as a compass. Rotating bezel also good for timing events much like the sub.

By far my favorite watch.

I got rid of everything after I got a 16570, which I wear everywhere...but I enjoy not seeing them around much, so buy a 5 digit Sub or GMT.

For me I would pick the Explorer or the Submariner date. Bear in mind that it won't probably be your last one LOL

116610LN you will have to go pre-owned but it is the absolute perfect one-piece collection. Getting the 114060 has been known to cause a bit of 'date envy' of the owner.

It's a tough choice between the 16710 or the 16613. Both late variations with no holes and SEL.

16710 with Pepsi insert and 16613 with blue face. It would be a coin toss for me

I'm in your position too mfm in that I've yet to get a Rolex but the plan is to buy a new one next year and wear it as my one and only.

For me it's between a brand new Submariner, Submarinier Date or an Explorer II Polar.

My current mood and what I believe you should go for... Submariner Date!

Lug holes + SELs is the real sweet spot.

Rolexes new warranty policies are getting stiffer, in order to get warranty, you must buy from authorized dealer.
Why do you say that? My Sub Date I bought from Thanh shipped directly from a US AD with my name on the card and an appraisal from the AD on their letterhead.

Either a Sea Dweller 116600 or a GMT 116710, depending on your personal taste (the GMT is a little more shiny, with PCLs and a cyclop). Either of those models could easily serve as a one and only.

Same here - and this is from a long time Sub/SD guy! If it came down to just keeping one, it might just have to be the 16710 GMT or perhaps my U serial 16700 with Sub clasp? These GMTs are just superb!

SubC (any) or BLNR for me too.
P.S. Also 4 and 5 digit references are great (1680, 16710).

Sub of any form is the quintessential Rolex. Professional oyster case, built like a tank and can do no wrong.

The Daytona is a close second but you can't get one for under 8.

Voting with Ken on this one - either of the above is a great "only one" watch!
