I just think the ticking of mechanical timepieces is lovely. I have a long case regulator clock in my hallway, and I can hear its beautiful ticking when I sit and relax, it's mesmerising and soporific. As with others on this forum, I hear my tog's amplified ticking on the cabinet next to our bed. The tinny clicking air my Timex workwatch, is just horrible.

The 3135 sounds great, and in the DSSD the tick-tocking of the escapement almost has a cavernous echo pinging resonance to it. When it's really quiet you can even hear the hum of the balance spring oscillation.
I also love watching the Daniels' escapement through the case back on my Omega PO 9300 (which you can just about see when you get the rotor out the way and get the viewing angle right). This is why we have mech watches right? If we're not fascinated by the intricate workings of these tiny machines, tracking the passage of time as the sun rises and sets to within plus or minus a couple of seconds per day out of 86,400... why bother? ^_^ |

This is not a complaint, I love to hear the ticking, just curious why it's so loud on this watch. Maybe because its a big watch? |

I need that stethoscope! I know I am losing my hearing but I can barely gear any of my watches. The two watches I have with the ETA 7750 movement are the loudest, but I can barely hear my Rolex's.

As an old artilleryman, my hearing isn't so good, but the first time I ever wore my Explorer to bed and put my left arm under my pillow, I heard a long series of gongs that made me get up and look around the apartment for whatever could be making that sound.
Eventually, I figured out that it was my watch. ![]()

My Hublot is about 10x as loud as my Rolex. I think the solid caseback and incredible water resistance (SD43) mutes the movement quite a bit.

My Oyster Perpetual 39 with a 3132 movement makes a cute and rapid tinkering sound that is quite musical and amusing.

A few weeks of wearing my new Explorer II and I had never bothered to listen. Until tonight. What a beautiful beat! It’s a rhythmic gong that is much more exotic than the tic of the Valjoux that powers my Tutima. It is embarrassing to admit (outside this forum) how much I enjoy owning this watch.

Ex-Army, so I hear nothing when placing the Smurf against my ear. Total silence. Too bad.

I enjoy listening to my Daytona with the Chronograph running. The ticking is a “musical” sound as others have mentioned, and I can hear a distinct “click” when the minute hand on the subdial clicks over.

Yes, it’s enjoyable. Especially a hi-beat movement.

Averaging approximately 700,000 beats per day these amazing little machines are just unreal.
That little heartbeat of your watch going and going after weeks, months, years and decades. Complete works of art.

I used to be able to hear my Sub ticking though the pillow, whilst getting off to sleep. Now i can't hear it even jammed against my lug. Might try stethoscope idea.

The sound difference between my Sub Date and Speedy Pro is fascinating - I enjoy listening to them both.
