If you're going to use it and enjoy then the Rolex. If you want jewely for very special occasions worn with care then the Patek.

Josh, it is always very interesting to read your posts. i really hope to see your post where you will describe your journey in a watch world (i.e. what watches you owned and why you flipped them). Also, it is pretty obvious that you are climbing up on a "watch ladder" and all your new acquisitions become more and more sophisticated.

On your question i could comment only on Platona, which i tried once. This is pretty special watch and in my opinion is top end of Rolex. It is very heavy, reliable watch which could be worn under radar. Also, not so many ordinary people will understand that this is platinum and not stainless steel. So my advice is very simple: if you want reliability and discretion and to be under radar buy Platona... if not, then RG Patek is another choice. ALS are nice but they are not a part of "holy trinity".

Platinum 116506. It looks like stainless steel at first but when you put it side by side with the 116500 LN Daytona, the Platinum looks even shiner
However, Datograph is very special watch, I had to make a decision on what to choose as well. I went for the Platinum 116506 Daytona and very happy with my choice

This is a relief for many Lange owners. For a start they're not Swiss. They also produce fewer watches than the holy trinity. They also plough their own furrow when it comes to design and the complications they offer - Zeitwerk anyone? I for one would be very disappointed if Lange were lumped in with any of the three brands in the supposed holy trinity. Thankfully educated watch collectors know that already.
