Do it. Platona is the best watch in the world in my entirely unbiased opinion...

Do it before the offer on the JLC shrinks to a PASS.

I think, unwittingly, you have hit the nail on the head. Plat Daytona gives you all of the advantages of a watch which is less than a quarter of its value (if value = RRP). If you really want to trade two watches from top-tier brands for one watch from a mid-tier brand, then go ahead.

Sorry to tell you if you buy it unless used you'll lose 10 to 20 percent if you flip it even if you get it at a good price.
That said I'd do it if you like it. I've found that no matter the value of the watch it comes down to what you like. I tried this on a week or so ago and it just isn't for me.

I don't think I would do it. If you must then DEF get it mint used and DO NOT pay for new. Best of luck! BTW...if u want Daytona I would go for new ceramic SS.

Get a White Gold Daytona with a dial you like and keep the PP. The premium on the Platona is 60K dollars-- same caliber as in the steel but 60K? I had a hard time paying double for the white gold daytona.

Ive come close twice to getting a platinum but honestly cannot bring myself to do it.... There is a bit of hype involved that makes you want to throw "all in" to get it but thankfully to me personally i have resisted. This is just my opinion and in no way am i telling you what to do... you do what makes you happy because that's the bottom line

Do it. It's the Rolex of Rolexes.
And by the way.... a Platona thread is never complete without Dr. Toms input. I think I read that on the forum rules sticky. |

I sold 4 of my favourite watches to buy my Platona and 15 months down the line have no regrets.
Whilst I understand the horological pecking order for Watch brands most Pateks and JLC's leave me cold(with the possible exception of the Patek 5711/1R-001)and given my past and continuing love of Rolex the Platona was the only way to go. |

I like your collection but that would be an easy yes for me.
Sounds like the 116506 would suit you perfectly for all occasions and you get to hang on to the Subs. |

Platinum Daytona Trade

This is exactly what I would do. Steel, gold, and platinum. Two great brands. Three fantastic watches.

My collection got up to 6, which I found to be too many. I sold 3 and bought my BLRO (my first pm watch). 18 months later and no regrets whatsoever.....so I say go for it.

Nope: for Platona money there are more interesting chronographs out there. I would look at both the Lange Datograph and Lange 1815 Chronograph (pre owned) before considering a Platona. The only thing the Platona offers over the steel version is...platinum. The movement is the same one you find in a $12k watch. That makes no sense to me. In the end having the Hulk as your beater, the Aquanaut and a Datograph as your high end watches would be what I would choose to do.

Platinum Daytona Trade
I'll chime in, and apologies in advance if I'm rephrasing what may have already been said.
Watches are meant to be worn and enjoyed, I wouldn't keep anything that doesn't get regular wrist time. Diversifying just to 'complete' the collection, to me, isn't as enjoyable as having them on my wrist. The Platona is a fantastically versatile piece, and I think you wear it well. All the reasons you've stated is why I bought mine. The other option is to add the Daytona while keeping the other two. You can then decide whether you wish to perhaps keep both, sell one, or both.. Cheers and best of luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thanks you all for your opinions. I went to see the actual Platinum Daytona I was getting from the grey market dealer I arranged the trade with.
Unfortunately, the watch which was described as "mint, 2014", had gashes in the polished centre links which they attempted to polish out and the bracelet barely fit my 7" wrist because the previous owner kept some links back. I've bought from them a few times before and never seen them mis-describe a watch before. I'm still looking for a durable do-it-all watch to complement my collection that will get wrist time. I'm actually now considering a Vacheron Constantin Overseas three handed or Chronograph. The grey market dealer is willing to honour the quotation for my part exchanges should I see something else of similar value to the Platinum Daytona so I'm keeping my eyes peeled. |
