Offered wife, she hated current offerings yet loved this 4.5k FrankinWatch. 36mm DJ she beats the $#!+ out of it, swims with it, etc and it's fine.

Go 36mm OP. Jmho

If you're gonna go 36, make it a very girly looking watch, otherwise guys will think she is wearing her dead husband's Rolex and they will be hitting on her. Or she got it in the divorce and likes to advertise that fact.

My wife has tiny wrists. So I usually get her the smaller sized watches. She does not like watches larger than 36mm. However, she borrows my Hulk often and loves it.

My wife thought exactly like yours and thought the 36 was too big and 31 was just perfect. Well, less than a year later the "31 is too small and now I need a 36." So I would advise you pick the 36 and save yourself the money of trading.

From my personal taste the 31 seems to fit better with her wrist. I'd just take her out shopping again and let her choose one, either is a winner in my book.

My wife has a 36mm DJ and a Ranger and wears both comfortably. For reference she's 5'2" and about 100lb.

yes larger more fashionable these days, so with jeans / shirt , definitely a 36 will not look out of place.

But if she is wearing a nice dress for a night out or a wedding or ..., then the 36 will stand out and not in a good way.

I highly recommend starting with a 31mm for her first and elegant Rolex, than later on adding a 36 (or even a 40 if you dare) as a more 'casual' piece.

Here is a picture of her 31mm that I bought her for 20th anniversary... I LOVE this piece and think looks fantastic and elegant on her:

And here is the Daytona we later got (her daily wearer)...

Hope this helps.

Opinions are valuable, of course, when considering pros and cons, but she can make either watch "her own." I think both look terrific on her wrist. I personally believe any "weight" felt from the 36 would disappear very soon. Can she visualize occasions/attire when she isn't sure the watch would wear well? Does that present an issue? Does her personal style make it work? Would a smaller watch fit more opportunities? For me, it just comes down to which watch I like better/best, sometimes with a dose of practicality added for good measure.

In my opinion the 31mm looks nicer. It will also be less cumbersome and more comfortable for everyday. A more versatile size as well IMO and I have access to both 31 & 36 to wear. It's all up to what she likes and is more comfortable with in the end. Most will not know if they'll regret not getting the larger size, but I know I wouldn't. I just feel that the 31mm is such a versatile size and looks beautiful on most wrist sizes.

I swear most guys get their wives 36mm + so they can wear them too. I'm sorry, but I just don't get big watches on a ladies wrists unless they're 6 footers and can carry the man under their arms while wielding a club. And please don't get mad at me, it's just my opinion, I'm just very old school... sorry.

A generation or 2 earlier wearing men's watch was the "widower look"... guess yours is the modernised version hehehe

She likes her 35mm and 39mm and actually I made sure before I bought them

She comes from a different culture in another country where they wear bigger watches, and actually 35mm isn't so big anymore on women. The 39mm OP is a fun watch with a bit of character, color and shines although SS and just for kicks.

Now when they wear those huge sunglasses 😎 I don't get that but that's the style where she from and thank god she doesn't have any of those

My wife sttarted..

with a 29mm dj, after 2 years change to a 34mm date (looks like the datejust) and now wen to the 36mm datejust. The 29 was way too small for her, possibly a nice dress watch

My wife is tall but slim wrists...she wears my Hulk all the time.

Looks great on her.

Ladies can pull off oversized much better than a man.

I am 5'2" with 6" wrists and wear 36mm DJ - i traded in my 31mm DJ as, after 8 years, the dial was too small for me to read it easily. No regrets and love the bigger size.

I'm with you on this. Out here, I see tiny Asian women about 5' tall with spaghetti wrists wearing huge Rolex divers. I'm not a fan. When I'm in the Panerai boutique, I see similar girls trying on 44mm Luminors and 47mm Luminor Submersibles. They stand preening in the mirror and a blind man on a galloping horse could tell them they look ridiculous. Out here though, it's more of a 'look at me and how much money I have statement'. I actually find it quite sad that people have to be that shallow.

My wife, who is 5'10" and very slim, wears a 26mm Day-date that she inherited. It is heavier than my 36mm DJ. I don't think weight will be an issue after a very brief time. It's all about what fits her eye.

I'm looking to purchase my wife her first Rolex for our two year anniversary. We've had several trips to the AD and spent time on rolex.com and found the perfect dial, bezel, etc DJII that she likes.

She can't decide on the size though; she feels the DJ31 is a bit small, and the DJ36 is a bit large (too bad there is no 34MM DJ).

She likes the 36 more, but she's worried it will be too heavy and uncomfortable for daily use. Its a little hard to tell in the AD how it will feel without being sized and wearing it for more than a few minutes.

Any ladies with small wrists here wear the 36? How does it feel?
I bought my wife a watch and gave her a complete free hand to choose whatever she wanted.

She opted for a 31mm YG Datejust with a diamond dial. She wears it almost 24/7. Occasionally, if she wants to dress down, she will pinch my Zenith Daytona which I think is 39mm. Both watches are fine and she enjoys wearing either of them.

Regards

Mick

My wife went from a 30mm TAG diver for around 10 years to a midsize SMP diver as the bigger watch trend on women came around 4-5 years ago. She has moved back to a 29mm Yacht-Master a year or so back. She prefers the smaller watches. She also wears a Garmin activity tracker 24/7 on the other wrist.

My wife has 26, 31, 36, and 40mm Rolex watches. Her main everyday go to is a 31mm Yachtmaster platinum; generally that is the size she prefers.

My wife is about 5'7" and slim. She went with the 31mm. I think she would have looked great with 36mm but the 31 does fit nicely.

I let my lady sport my new Explorer I which she models over the sleeve

She really loved this Day Date with the Stella Dial. 36mm looks phenomenal on her and we plan on adding one soon!

She's about 5'3 and very petite so 36mm is really the largest she'll go.
