You have to be crazy to pay over MSRP on any Rolex watch period.

Fortunately we don't all agree. That makes for an interesting marketplace.

HA! Yep. I responded to a ludicrous offer from Govberg on a piece with exactly the same logic. Their pricing was stupid high, but I can't blame them for trying, I guess.

In my opinion, new old stock is something I'm not usually willing to pay for because I like to wear my watches (maybe as an investment). It only seems it's worth the premium if you plan to stick it in the safe and pretend it doesn't exist

Funny how the acronym NOS used to mean 'shop worn' (aka merchandise lying around unsold). In the old days, those items were usually sold at a discount. Not so with Rolexes.

Collectors will always pay a premium for the mintest and crispest versions of what they are after...which is fine..

What is weird is paying the big premium for crsipy unworn mint....then wear it...

It would be like paying a big premium for an untouched collectible comic book...and then read it while your eating lunch..

Just to weigh in with my own two cents, I work for Watchcentre (with regards to the NOS 16610 that was linked earlier). In my experience, we have had a lot of interest in NOS models on any 5 digit sports reference, and people are readily willing to pay the premium for them. FWIW, I would never suggest buying one of the NOS pieces as one to wear, because I can usually sell a used piece in nice condition for near enough half the price

If it's going to sit in a safe, and it's purely going to be an investment, then I don't think the client is going to do badly. There's only going to be fewer NOS examples in the long term, and the market only seems to be going one way

Chris

NATOS and such are fine for alternatives, but pale in comparison to the original oyster bracelet the watch was born with.
i was kind of thinking this too. I have watches that I never wear the bracelet on but I have it in my safe deposit box should I ever need or want to sell the watch.

In regards to the OP question....yes they are ridiculous prices but there are folks that will pay it and if folks will pay it then more power to the sellers.
