I think all SS vintage Rolexes' prices will go up just because of this. I just hope that this isn't the bubble.

I expect to see wrist shots as soon as Fedex drops it off at your home, you hear?

When news of this spreads I think all Rolexes will be more valued so greys are the winners again.

Aren't they always? Rolex gets inventory out of the door, they get paid regardless and the greys pocket even more.

This auction was going to be great for the spectacle but bad for the market.

I would guess it was Rolex who bought it. It was a fight between Tiffany & Co and a mystery phone bidders. I'd guess Rolex did not want it know in case they were outbid. Time will tell. If it was Rolex they will use it in marketing. But then again, I guess they can talk about it even if they don't own it. (My story just imploded...haha)

I don't think that will happen lol! I think exotic dials ss and gold go up the most but they all go up except maybe ones in current production but I could see a bump there too..

Wouldn't it be incredible if the someone who bought this was a fan of this forum or even a member and posted about it.

It would be. I wonder if any members were at the auction! I can't imagine how tense that room must have been. Shame that opening bid was so high, would have seen some good back and forth I think!

I wasn't able to pay full attention... did the person with the opening bid of $10M win the auction at $15.5?

I don't think they did. It was the anonymous phone bidder who won. Unless I'm mistaken

So, any guesses who bought it? John Mayer? Eric Clapton? Newman raced Porsche's mostly didn't he? Maybe Porsche? Or was it...

Tkerrmd?

Edit: So there were guesses already, didn't see that. Rolex makes sense. They've probably sold 100x that in Daytona's thanks in part to Paul Newman. Much if not all the proceeds go to charity I think I heard so Rolex (or Tiffany) basically making a large charitable donation.

That watch sold for over 15 Million Dollars?
This just cannot be true.
It makes no sense.

Why is that watch so valuable?
Because Newman wore it?

What am I missing here?

No, one of the Phillip's agents was called Tiffany and one Natalie and they were engaged in a bid off. I'm not sure if the 10m caller was the winner.

Tiffany shouted 10 mil. Her client backed down at 15.5 and the watch went to Natalie's "most patient bidder"

The history and the heritage that goes with a Paul Newman is enough for them to sell in 100k's of dollars. BUT this was his actual one that he WORE AND OWNED, for many many years. It's a true one of a kind watch. So that significance alone is worth a few extra zeros at the end of the price.
