Would you take your Rolex to Kuwait for a year?

I wouldn't take a YM to a place that raises concerns. Besides, it's a dress watch, made of precious materials. I think you ought to get a Rolex tool watch, like the Expy II or GMT II (Pepsi or Coke). A used one from a fellow TRF-er might make things even less stressful for you. No "new watch" anxiety.

Yep, get it on very safe area of the world and Ive been there a bit. Good news is that if anyone was stupid enough to take it then they would find it useless as after having their hand cut off it would keep slipping off!!!

Trust me the Kuwaitis have no shortage of luxury items on show, your Rolex will look like a seiko in some social occasions!

Take it of course, the key here is that you WEAR it on your wrist and it will be plenty safe. BTW, I insure my Sub Date for $6,000 with USAA and pay $15/month - well worth it.

Take it and enjoy it Richard. Life is too short - enjoy your possessions. I am sure there are plenty of Rolex's in Kuwait and it will be as safe there as anywhere.

However, I would most certainly insure it before I go. Choose an all risks policy with world wide cover.

thoughts about your wife and the good times you had on your trip while you

I was on active duty after 9/11 for a couple of years. Didn't leave the states; but, was not exactly sure where I was headed that September.

I took my GMT and didn't really hesitate that I remember. So, I say take your Rolex and enjoy it.

Richard, from what I have heard, Kuwait should be a safe place to wear a Rolex. I bet you won't be the only Rolex wearer there.

Get it insured for peace of mind on a "new for old" policy to avoid any price hikes.

Take it without any hesitation. You could be robbed anywhere in the world but to be robbed in Kuwait where the average wage is considerably higher than here is highly unlikely. Good luck anyway

I retired a year ago and I say leave the watch behind ... unless you have something like a Sub or SD that is due for service around the same time as your return - due to the very fine almost dustlike sand over there. The watch will definitely need to be serviced upon your return if you are going to be serving in the field. In that case, take that bad boy and it will treat you right.
