I feel your pain. I don’t understand the carelessness and little regard for someone else’s property that some people exhibit. I also park as far as possible and invetibly see some idiot leave a shopping cart in the parking lot to sail with the wind and hit someone’s vehicle.
If I recall your SL is black so the body shop should be able to match and blend the color where you will never know it’s had paint work.

Years ago I parked my NSX about 1/8th mile away from Total Wine and hiked in. It was a sea of empty parking spaces out there. When I came out of the store some chicken sucker parked about 6” away on my drivers side door. They literally had to climb out the passenger side door to get out of their car. 4 flat tires later, for him, I drove home with a smile on my face. That guy can go to hell. Same to the rat b@stard that nailed your SL.

What?

He pranked you for chuckle, but didn't damage your car. So you punctured his tires like a crazy ex-girlfriend. When I was younger what you did was called a punk move, now I think they'd call it a b1tch move. Either way, you left the loser, but weren't wise enough to see it.

Dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

I have a car so I DON'T have to walk.

He needs a scooter rack on his car so he can ride from his parking spot to the store.

My ex wife destroyed my car left side with a screwdriver the day following a court hearing. I was mad at first but then told myself it’s just a car. And she’s is a poor frigid lifeless c..t..

I hoping he just let all of the air out of the guys tires!

Seth - I hate it when stuff like this happens too. When I am driving the Porsche, I always try to park farther away and walk or park in an end space. With the end space, I can hug one side of the spot without worry and it normally leaves plenty of room on the other side for careless door opening/closing.

I know the feeling. Happened to us 3 times in one year. No notes and one of the times was significant damage. Ridiculous..

Sorry to hear. That kind of thing is such a hassle and pain.

My wife’s vehicle was parked in the hospital employee parking lot right after we got it and this lady smashed the rear fender while backing out. She tried to just drive away but a security guard happened to see the whole thing and stopped her. The security guard said that even if he hadn’t have been there they could have pulled the footage from the cameras to see who had done it. Something to think about if you were parked somewhere with security cameras.

So the guy parked close to your car caused zero damage and you decided to flatten 4 of his tires? Sounds like a real stand up move on your part.

Getting the thread back on track.

Some people really care about their cars. For me, it’s been a passion way longer and burns way brighter than watches ever could.

I spend a lot of time on my vehicles. It sucks when someone just doesn’t have a care in the world about how they effect others.

I read about this happening all of the time. I park far away from other cars and this has never happened to me.
Going to the grocery store soon.....I am doomed.

It’s unfortunate that some people out there have no respect for others or their property.

Sorry to hear, Seth. I hope you get your car sorted for small money.

Old photo, but it enables me to park up close everywhere. BTW I consider my cars just as "nice" as the German and Italian marques.

Sorry to hear that Seth. Happened to my wife once but the woman left a note thankfully. There are good people in this world... even in California.

Sorry to hear. As someone else suggested, retrofitting cameras that run only during driving + g-sensor for hits works wonders.

That sucks Seth. Someone door dinged my last car pretty bad. Pissed me off but hey it’s life.

I typically just park between two cars like everyone else. 8/10 times I come back and those two cars are still on either side of me.

Assuming the guy with the NSX just let the air out of the guys tires I think that’s hilarious and damn well deserved. He’s well within right to park next to him but not literally in his space.

Was he in his space, or in two or three spaces to make sure he was protected?

A friend got blocked in tight once. He left a note with his number on the guys window saying it was a great prank, and that if the guy called he’d like to buy him a beer. He never got a call, but I think he won the engagement.

Well that’s another thing altogether. I always laugh at people parked in several spaces even if it’s the back of the lot. You’re asking for it then. I assume he was parked correctly.

I hate having to park anywhere with my Porsche. It is like a magnet for other cars to park close. My saving grace is that everyone in the family hates my car (Dad's loud bubble car) so we take the mini van.

No tires punctured. All it cost him was trying to find someone with a compressor to fill his tires back up.

Knew a guy once who got so tired of these kinds of nuisance repairs that he had the body shop strip his NSX down to the gray undercoat and he left it that way.

The car looked like a fighter plane on wheels and attracted far less attention from the highway patrol. It also blended in quite nicely with the asphalt and was difficult at times to sight from the air.

I have always said that you need a big old F250 in grey primer for all your city work and your nice car for weekend fun.
I frequently have incompetents try to park or change lanes on top of me. If you drive an F250 it's their problem.
Have had four lots of damage without a note over the years. Wished I'd bought that big old Ford.

I have a big F250SD. I was in a store for 5 minutes when somebody ran into my trailer hitch hard enough to take the rust off it and left a bunch of plastic bits on the ground. You'd think in the short time I was gone they would still be there.

How do people get their insurance to pay for these things if they run off without a report?

I'd imagine either they don't, or they say someone somehow them and ran off.

When I was younger and through my 20s and 30s I always had nice muscle cars and park d them miles from the entrance to malls etc. When I moved to LA in my late thirties I bought a Jeep Wrangler and have had a variation of them mostly ever since.

It’s so nice to not have to worry about car door damage any more, I guess except for monster trucks.
