I had the same dilemma. Fortunately I was able to try on both at my nearest AD. 42mm Explorer II fit much nicer and looked better to me. I wore it out of the store and it has been ticking ever since. I am thrilled with my black dial Explorer II.

Quite a difficult choice hence I bought both the GMT & EXII
The explorer was a first rolex :)

I don't think it wears large at all. I've had a couple of 114060's also. To me at least, they wear bigger. YMMV

What is that in the background of your picture? Are those wall clocks?

I think GMT is more suitable on your wrist; besides BLNR with a bi-color rotating ceramic bezel looks much better than Exp II, IMHO.

With your 114060, I would pair it with a modern polar. I've done the same thing with the 5 digit references and it's perfect. Almost perfect enough to sell off the rest of the collection.

I’ve had both, sold the Exp2. The reason for me was pretty simple. The hands. Specifically the thickness. My designer mind just couldn’t deal with the proportions of the dial/hands. They’re off. Other than that, I did love that watch, 42mm is perfect, but might try the white dial if I were to do it again.

I like the size of the 216570 better. It's also very cool. I always wondered what it would look like with polished lugs and center links though!

If you were getting your first Rolex, I probably would recommend a GMT-Master II as it is more representative of the brand.
My sentiments exactly.

I'm not a fan at all of the current GMT's. Way too busy, and if you have a sub, way too similar.

The Explorer II's however, are awesome. And REALLY comfy.

I know Rolexes pretty well.....I'm on the forum a good hour a day, yet I still mistook a GMT for a Submariner the other day. Love the GMT, but an Explorer 2 is a better contrast to your 114060. One with ceramic bezel one with steel. One with date and one without. Good luck on white versus black on the Explorer 2.

My black Explorer 2 is my daily wearer and as others have said, it's extremely comfortable. It's big at 42mm but not too big. It's pretty thin and that offsets the diameter.

The research and hunting is half the fun. Good luck!

I think you'll know right away if you try one on in person. If you go see them in person and try them both on you'll make a quick decision. Every time I go to an AD with a Rolex in mind I invariably end up walking out the door obsessed with a different model.

To answer your question though, my wrists are about the same as yours and I love the size of the Explorer 2. I also had the advantage of seeing my twin brother wear my watch. It was really cool to see how I looked wearing a watch while not wearing it. It looked perfect on him.

A bit surprised at the love for the exp II.

With smaller wrists, you need to try on the Exp II. I have 7.25" wrists and love my 42mm polar Exp II. The black hands and hour markers pop off the white dial and the lume is amazing. Very comfortable to wear too. I have a BNLR on order, but since you already have a Sub, I'd recommend the white dial Exp II as a contrast to the Sub. If you find one LNIB and get a fair price for it, you won't take much of a hit if you decide to flip it later.

It is a absolutely stuning watch..... It is also very unique. It also gives a very different feeling than the other Rolex watches. I absolutely love it... I think it is strange that it isn't more populair.

And this is something i am a bit worried about..... A fair price is around 15% off right? What can i expect to loose if i would flip it you think? Tastes change over time i think, people will love the explorer 2 perhaps ''later'' people are like sheep
