It’s priced as high as £17,150 I’m the U.K. - that’s $24,000 at the current exchange rate!

Personally I wouldn’t and paid retail for both of mine. Would I have paid a small premium to have obtained one had I not been able to get them at retail? Yes, but not close to today’s premiums.

why would you pay that much over the odds for one of the fussiest/ugliest Daytona's ever made.

Can't believe the hype to be honest.

Probably the people making the most off these Daytonas are the ADs that sell them (at a markup over MSRP I'm sure) to grey marketers. The AD's only paid ~60% of the MSRP in the first place. Each of these they sell into the gray market they are making bank, and probably moving some slow sellers in the same deal.
...and don’t even start on the gross margin Rolex makes on these!

My view on the OPs question - MSRP bears only a coincidental relationship to market price, so no need to get hung up on it. The question is whether there there’s another 18.5k watch that floats your boat more than a Daytona - and if not, then go for it

Guys-there are some really rich people in this world. While most of us save, negotiate, and make informed purchases there are some that don’t. There are some with enough money to pay 18k for a 14k watch and not even blink. Sellers that have been in this game for a while know there are big fish out there and it’s just a matter of time before they bite. I don’t think the 18k Daytona was ever priced with “us” in mind. I think it was priced high by someone who knows exactly who is out there and what they will spend.

Just think of the athlete that bought 15 presidents for his teammates. He is the one that will buy the 18k Daytona....not me.

Market conditions are what they are and I don’t blame anyone for making as much as they can on what they sell. I choose not to participate in the game and will wait on my AD list. If it’s meant to be, I’ll get the call. If not, I’d consider white gold before paying a usd 6k premium on the SS.

No. Might as well save up a few more and go for PM.

To the OP: find a private seller who's flipping their Daytona (which they were fortunate enough to buy at list) and make them an offer. Yes, you'll pay a premium, but it won't be near as much compared to a big name reseller.

Nope, wouldn't feel comfortable with paying that kind of a premium for one. It's not a 18K watch to me.

Pay, wait, or skip all together. It's the buyer's call. For me it was pay or skip as I couldn't find a local dealer that would allow me on a wait list. Paying a premium was the best path because I wanted a watch. Did I pay $18K? No, not even with rounding error! Look around; they're there for less!!!

I thought I really wanted a Daytona but couldn't feel good about such an inflated cost (actual price was irrelevant). I was fortunate enough to go to an AD yesterday to make sure it was the watch I wanted. I figured Id go two tone but I lucked up and he had a mint SS pre ceramic. I have trouble with my conscience buying a 12k watch but the thought of paying ^k on top of retail would prevent me from doing it.

Of course. Life is too short. And by the time you get to the top of the list, it might be 18k RRP anyway and you won't have been enjoying it in the meantime.

Funny how people are prepared to buy a car new, drive off the forecourt and lose thousands. But people cringe at the thought of paying over retail for a watch that will probably be worth more than they paid for it in the future, just because it's over RRP.

Some might, others perhaps not. The real question is, are you willing to pay the asking price.

Thought about it but since I am now at the top of the list with my AD, I wait and keep my fingers crossed that I get the call!

If you love it that much and don't want to wait then go for it.

Even though I wouldn’t (like many others have replied here) yet the only reason the price went that high is because there are many others that would!!

Car guys have the same situation, as do other luxury good manufacturers.

A solution could be to raise prices to what is referred to as Market Value.

Am curious.... If Rolex rased the MSRP of the SS ceramic Daytona to 18k would that sway you to purchasing it?

Buy the watch now and enjoy it. If you get a call from your ad for the same one, then sell this one when it comes. They will be worth more for QUITE SOME TIME. So maybe you lose 2k, but I don't see a white dial falling below MRSP plus 3k for even a used one (should white be what you're looking for). Most people buy watches from any other brand and lose WAY more than that. So really you're still ahead of the game.

If it’s something I really want NOW, and can afford the premium then why not? If I don’t want any other watch and don’t want to wait, then go for it.

We’re talking about a luxury watch. Everything is already overpriced anyways. It’s not a rational purchase, even at Msrp

The likelihood of getting one at MSRP is pretty unlikely. I feel this watch is under priced at the current retail price. I believed it was going to come in a 14,200. Also waiting for one could take years and the price point will keep going up. I lusted after the old non C model for years. I finally had the chance to get one and at the time it was around 8k retail. I passed on it for some reason. Them maybe 4 years later I wanted it and the new retail was 12k. Yikes! Purchased it at 12k. So who knows what the future will hold but life is short
