RSUs and bonus, so basically just extra income. I don't want to dip into my savings/investments since I want to make sure that I'll be able to live comfortably when I plan to retire 30+ years from now

Because I sold a bunch of white powder thats how I can afford a $30k watch. LOL

In all honesty I understand where you are coming from. In my normal 9-5 job I probably could never afford one (even if I make well over 6 figures). Its due to my real estate investments that has allowed me to buy such timepieces.

Plus I started an online business which made surprisingly good money the first year it opened so I rewarded myself for that also. :)

I have a kid, wife and a good job and a good hobby that brings in extra cash. I just purchased by first roles (BLNR) based on having some extra money from the good hobby. It was very difficult for me to spend $9K instead of putting it in kid's 529 or an IRA. Really no way to rationalize buying the watch over that, so i just said 'F it'

With that being said, my watch is worth more than my car ('08 Elantra) and we live in a nicer neighborhood, but with a house that is on the much lower end than neighbors.

By the way, i don't do anything illegal. I just can make 100 dollars of 10... And i don't understand how i do that to... I guess everybody can do it if they know how to use money the proper way.. Rolex isn't a bad way to spend money though, it can be far worse to...

This is a luxury purchase for me in balance with my conservative lifestyle. I personally wouldn't want to buy a luxury item if all my other aspects in life were not comfortably funded. I live by the old saying when it comes to luxury purchases.. "If I cant comfortably afford two, I shouldn't buy one.".

No kids, I have a rental property that covers my living expenses. Girlfriend and I are fortunate to have good paying jobs, and we are able to get by with only one modest vehicle (2017 Subary Legacy 3.6R). Put money aside from each pay to cover future watch purchases. Sell off watches not being worn if the savings don't equal the cost of the new watch. Still allows us to live a pretty full/comfortable life (vacations, eat out, sporting events/concerts/ theatre).

I have all the things that suck money, houses, cars, a wife, 2 children, etc. however, I don’t have a habit of smoking, drinking, cigars, eating out regularly, going out to bars and clubs, gambling... and I prefer sporting events from the comfort of my couch. That plays a big part for me. We all have priorities, of course making and/or having a lot of money is the biggest help, but living a modest lifestyle helps me the most to allow for this hobby.

Also, if I sold all my watches today, I’d be up money. So while I’m not saying the “I” word (umm hmm Cough “investment!”), there are much worse hobbies for losing money.

Work, but ultimately you need to ask yourself do you make enough to justify a $5k-$20k watch purchase?

- I won't dip into savings, unless I was saving explicitly for the purchase.
- Where else are my money priorities right now and where does this rank?
- If it's not funny money to you (aka you're not "loaded"), are you ok spending it instead of saving/investing it?

Ultimately I tend to justify it to myself by thinking...
- There may not be a tomorrow.
- A life event (big bday year, work/life achievement)
- Yes it's a lot of money, but I plan to make a whole lot more than what I'm sacrificing if I invested the $10k over 30 years.

Also I'm not in the mindset of flipping watches to get my next watch. Each one of the two I own have significant sentimental importance to me. I want to buy them new and own them until I can pass them on.

Here are my rules: I only buy a watch on years when I get a bonus, the price of which cannot exceed 20% of the bonus and never more than 1% of my net worth (regardless of the bonus amount).

I think by the way,, it is much harder to spend so much money on a watch if you have to work really hard for it... Perhaps than it cost u to many sweat and tears to buy one.. I am however fortunate or not fortunate at all to get money for doing absolutely nothing at all.. Also i don't drink or smoke or use anything else. I don't like to go to the cafe so i can easily save around 1000 dollars a month for just whatever i want.... Before i just spended 50.000 euros on stupid hobby's that costed me only money and havent any profit at all.. You are better off buying nice watches in this way..

I'm just a regular guy with a regular paycheck. I'm no Dr, lawyer, or investment banker with cash to burn.

I cleaned out my garage and basement. Sold a bunch of stuff in my garage that was collecting dust and I let go some of my old collectible stuff and that paid for my first Rolex.

I sold off some vintage NOS skateboard decks, vintage BMX bike parts, a nice newer Ritchey mountain bike, a Triumph custom chopper motorcycle project, and a Winchester lever action rifle and before you know it I had $6500 in my pocket.

I don't really drink or party or go out much and I have no kids and no car payment. I don't have much cool old collectible stuff to sell any longer so my next one is being funded by me simply saving for it and I am half way there.

I have an automatic transfer set up every Friday that puts $100 into a savings account,
and add another $3-500 at the end of the month. Minimal bills and no kids. Adds up to about one Rolex per year. Could easily be one PM Rolex per year but we travel and golf A LOT!

Savings from work and investments is what has provided my extra expendable income for purchase of any sort of "extra" like vacations or watches... and purses and shoes and jewelry lol

Let's be real, an average rolex (brand new or used) starts at $5,000, and some newer and more popular models cost $10k+. I am curious how an average person buy a rolex because with mortgage, car payment, family and kids, how do you manage to save up to buy a rolex and what do you do for living?

Thanks
Honestly? If that's what you're thinking right now then maybe, just maybe, you ought to think whether you really need a Rolex at the moment to appreciate a watch.

I consider myself a little above average... house and car paid off, wife and two kids going through college... have my own photography business. I'm 50 and I got my first Rolex 4 years ago. When I first started my family at 30 I wanted a Rolex too, but I waited 16 years and I worked very very hard before I started my own business. Now I not only work hard, but I like to think I also work smart.

YMMV.

All my "things" are funded through cash designated for "pissing away on stuff". I drive a Honda Accord and I don't sweat parking at the airport or getting it scratched.

As with anything, if you always live within/below your means you'll generally be fine. I would think if you have to sacrifice necessities or acquire through debt you shouldn't buy it.

Exactly our status and philosophy. When we were young and poor, we did not buy luxury goods. I did buy my first Rolex before I met my wife, but I was in the military and bought it cheap at the PX. Paid cash.

Had a business and sold it off for a good amount of money. Have a well paying day job and income from investments. Also, I tend to be frugal in everyday life (I pack my own lunch, don't spend money on coffee, don't drink much, shop for deals, etc.)

Sugar Mommy. Stay in shape, be a polite gentleman, dress how she likes, have talents such as cooking, musician, racecar driver, romance, etc. and make her smile and laugh every day. Arm candy needs Rolex 'arm candy'.

Of course, you know, i'm, er, um, just joking of course. ;)
