Put a deposit down and hold the watch for a week. Basel is next week...

let history be your guiding light.
when was the last time a sports model got discont and drop in price because of a new launch? even if it did, how long did it last?
say a coke ss comrs out, the blnr is bound to be discont.
and don’t expect the coke to be priced even close to current retail similar to sd43 and sd4k situation. rolex is not stupid?
long story short no point waiting, just get what you like.

This has been hashed out for the last couple months. Source is countless ADs and reps told of the disco, with instructions to note it in their master catalogs, not to take further orders of the BLRO, to cancel any existing orders, and to refund deposits on those orders. The website is irrelevant, since it is merely a marketing tool, not the catalog. The SD4K remained on the website up until Basel last year, even though everyone knew it was gone weeks before.

Get it now. Whatever is released at Basel this year or the next, will still take a good while to make it to your hands via an AD list or TS premium. Either way, you more likely will be paying a new, higher MSRP if a model is updated as well. BLNR probably wouldn't be back next gen. Rolex rarely does the same watch in terms of colors twice without changes as in back to back gens. Unless we're talking the Black Sub, which is a Classic.

If it were me, I'd wait; then again I am OCD. I have to have the latest and greatest, I waited for my DJ41 when a DJ2 was readily available. Not so much for the looks, but more that it would drive me crazy if a newer model was out soon and I didn't get it.

But that's just me.

Just buy the watch if you want it. Don't buy it if you don't. Life is simple. I would not over-evaluate things on SS models.

With that as context, is it mistake to buy this week in the context of a potential upgrade to the 3235 movement? What are the puts and takes - and any other considerations?
If it get discontinued you will regret not getting it and if it continues you will have it before others!

If pulling the trigger on the BLNR before Basel has you hesitating, I'd prob wait till the 21st (literally 6 days away) to decide. I personally would buy the GMT now. Especially if I truly loved the watch. I feel that if you buy based on what makes you happy vs what may/may not be happening in the future, you will not be disappointed/have regrets. Just my

Both movements are going to be rock solid and you likely will never notice a tick of a difference. Buy now.

Actually, the BLRO HAS been discontinued. The website has no bearing on whether or not a model is discontinued and it will eventually be updated.

X2 can’t wait forever. You would never buy a tv or computer because every year they get better and cheaper

Well, to be fair, new GMTs don't come out every year. If you buy soon after a new one has been released, you can rest assured it won't by superseded for a while. Since a new GMT could happen any time now (or not), I can understand why early-adopter types might try to read the tea leaves. Personally, it wouldn't stop me from buying, but it's not my call to tell someone else how he should go about buying his watches.

Well, in a sense it is. The OP, like many others, is asking for advice on how, what, when, to buy his watch.....just sayin’

I suppose it depends on how you read his question. Given his "puts and takes" phrase, I took it to mean he was asking about the odds of a new release happening, not whether he should care about it happening. The nature of his question suggests a new release might affect his feelings about the BLNR. A lot of people are telling him it shouldn't. I'm just trying to answer the question he asked, not tell him how he should feel.

That’s true. Facts do not equal feelings. FWIW, I feel like he should buy the watch 😁.

If I were in his position, I would buy it too. But I'm not an early adopter who is bothered by the thought of something new suddenly making what I have less desirable. I mean, I still use a friggin' flip phone.

Yeah, go figure. I've got a tablet, multiple laptops, streaming music players, streaming TV boxes, etc. But I just can't be bothered with a smart phone. I don't know why.

He is literally asking for advice on how he should go about buying his watches.

Maybe somewhat. But my primary question was more targeted than that. Mainly around the differences between the current movement and the likely next generation movement - for this particular watch.

It's waiting for me. Along with a new SD43.

I remember the first time I saw the BLNR on the Internet - when it first came out at Basel back in 2013. I thought it was the most beautiful watch I had ever seen. I still do. I can't wait to put it on my wrist.

It's funny - I almost didn't include that part of my post because I was afraid it would come off as "holier than thou," and people would take exception to it. I didn't mean it that way, and in retrospect I should have worded it differently. I just meant it's up to the OP to decide if he's comfortable with the BLNR as is, or would regret the purchase in the event there's a new release this year. It's not up to me to tell him how he should feel about that. But if that is what he was asking, I misread his intent.

The new movement will have a longer power reserve. I’m not sure other than that. My advice would be to buy now, then you’ll have the last version of the BLNR before it was changed. Right now everyone wants 16710, the last version before the last change. The same will be true whenever they bring out a new version of the GMT. Good luck with your decision.

Thank you for all the thoughtful and collegial replies on this thread. I've learned a lot since joining the board 2 weeks ago. Because of the board, I've also been able to sell one watch for far more than I was asking. And get a new watch for less than I thought I could.

On another front, I've made a breakthrough with my wife. She now recognizes that the BLNR and the SD43 are not the same watch. This is a major development.
