Agree with you 100% on the content.
i agree on the first sentence of the letter being the fishy part. Rolex controls inventory so them saying inventory is low makes no sense. Unless because its Rolex USA's letter and Rolex SA is the one who makes the watches and thus Rolex USA is saying that they are not getting enough inventory. In that context it is plausible for them to blame production.

Just seconding Tyler's posts: "novelties" is an accepted term of art among watch companies to refer to new releases in a given period. That doesn't mean the letter is authentic, but it cannot be dismissed as fake simply because of its use of that term.

I have an excellent and trusted relationship with my AD and I used to be asked if I wanted the stickers removed or take off. He no longer asks and just gets on and does it. Not sure what would happen if I asked him not to, but suspect he would be fine with it given our relationship. However, whilst the removal of the stickers was a novel and enjoyable thing to do with my first couple, I would now see it as pain so happy to let him crack on.

I think it's perfectly reasonable for them to do it. When you buy a new car, the protection film is taken off. No different.

....as an aside the letter has been removed from the dealer’s feed. I’m not sure if that increases or decreases the probability of it being authentic!

I personally think the letter is authentic - based on other threads here, the“best practices” outlined in the note have been virtually mandated in the U.K. for some time now. As the supply situation for SS models in the US has also become more challenging, it would seem logical that Rolex USA would follow suit and take a stronger line with AD behaviour.

Out of interest, does the salutation “Official Rolex Jeweller” sound right?

Can't speak to whether that letter is official but can say everything mentioned in the letter is true and was given to AD's here in USA by Rolex quite a while ago.

"Grey" is the English spelling; "gray" is American. A lot of people may not know that, though, and even those who do may not abide by the rule. I'm a veritable grammar and spelling Nazi, and I wil quite often use "grey," simply because I like that spelling better. Perhaps it's my fondness for greyhound dogs.

So authorized dealers are now being directed to retain warranties if the watch is a gift?

For how long?
What is their liability for a lost card?
What if the AD goes out of business?
Do AD's want to be information repositories?

Not believing this.

in the UK they are advised by Rolex UK to retain for 12 months reguardless if its a gift or not. You get a photo copy for your records. Rolex has the info so if the AD burns down you are fine.

I know AD's don't want to be involved but the consequences of too many flipped watches originating with their store is too big a risk.

If you are not keeping your watch for a year, they don't want your business.

And after 12 months what happens? On a five year warranty?

Does the AD have staff to notify those whose 12 months are up?

My AD just this past Wednesday told me I had to have the stickers taken off my watch and they respectfully let me take them off myself before leaving the store.

Last year 4 watches all in tact. Sign of the times...

I don't know if that letter posted is authentic, but my AD did say a letter was sent early in the year stating a couple of those facts.

after 12 months they give you the card. How they notify i have no idea, but they keep the cards in the safe. If you move im sure they will mail it. Obviously its much more common to happen to people the AD doesnt know well. The watch still has a warranty, you just don't get the card right away, as it makes it harder to sell.

On a related note, when i got my 5712 just before the price rise (2 price rises ago), my salesman had to personally vouch for me to the store director in order for me to be able to come home with my certificate of origin. So its not limited to Rolex.

The first part referring to inventory shortfall and the last sentence about 'grey market websites willingness to pay retail' sounds more like a marketing pitch to me....in that instance the lines are completely blurred as is the definition of the 'end customer' if everyone is paying retail. Mentioning premiums would have made more sense.

That just doesn't make sense to me. Everything else seems pretty accurate. No clue.

Just my .02

Letter is probably real but the main point is it is weak, thus I think it is official. Rolex will always be behind the curb in addressing the fast moving secondary markets and these measures are old, dated and largely ineffective.
