I gotta be honest and have been quite surprised at how much prices have been going up for the 16710s. Sad to hear that some people are locking them away in their safe as some kind of collectible item rather than wearing and enjoying them. I love mine.

Prices are up, significantly. They are double what I was paying 4 years ago, for a 16710. The increase is staggering, to me. Mine is a beater and it gets wrist time. Wear and enjoy!

Glad to hear it. I absolutely love mine and the raise in price certainly won’t lead to mine being locked away.

Unless a mass supply that exceeds demand of new ceramic gmts hit the AD’s,
I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting in anticipation of a price drop of 16710’s

Current pricing indicates that if the 5 digit buyer wanted a 6 digit GMT they'd probably have one. I don't personally believe the lack of ceramic pepsi availability is what has held them back, and the new SS pepsi jubilee is what they've been waiting for. Nor do I think that demand will fall because finally there is a ceramic SS pepsi for them to buy instead. I won't be trading up anyway.

No. But the all SS gmt appear flat over the last 30 days and there’s less sold ones on completed eBay listings vs auctions. I know it’s not scientific, but it’s a pretty good worldwide indicator that the spike is slowing.

2T have gone up considerably over the last 90.

Exp2 are appreciating too. Interestingly it’s the black ones and not the polars.

I'm one who recently paid a lot for one of these old, dated 16710s. I like it so much, it's making me wish I had bought an old, dated Sub instead of a ceramic one.

May I ask what constitutes a "boat load"?

What's interesting about this thread is the consensus is that prices are always going up, but about once a week someone asks if Rolexes are a good investment and the answer is always a resounding no!

Seems to me you could buy one, wear it for a few years, enjoy it, then make money.

I have also noticed a big jump in black Explorer 2's.

Agreed. It does seem that way doesn't it? In the time I've been looking at 16610LVs and 16710s, they have only gone up in price. 18 months ago, I could pick up an LV without box and papers in decent condition for around high $8k. Now they seem to high $9k+, and in fact are usually $11k+. Similarly, a decent 16710 is easily $10k+.

Well. Not the most expensive I’ve seen but this one was $8700.00.

To put it in perspective, my cousin purchased a full kit Pepsi 16710 in September for $6,800 USD.

I had been eyeing the 16710 for about a year now, and still check prices from time to time. There seem to be many more examples on the market since Baselworld. My view is that for the real nice pieces, the prices haven't been lower. That said, I didn't/don't get the sense that those that did/do creep over 10k move all that frequently. For those below 10k, I think it is at least safer to say they come and go more quickly. Great piece and still a wonderful addition to any collection.

I think the release of the new GMT pushed up prices due to the increase in interest in the GMT. I've seen many decent $10k 16710 move very quickly, especially if they come with boxes and papers.

I'm picking mine up in a few weeks, and its a mint 1988 R series with full box, papers, tags, recent service papers, everything. I've seen a few of this quality in the last six months, and all sold within 24-72 hours. Its a constant reminder to me just how hard it is to find a decent one, how quickly the good ones sell, and how much money is out there for people to spend on watches.

I'm personally not a big fan of the modern GMTs (BLNRs etc). I think they lack the classic look of the original Master and Master II's--meaning anything before the 116710.

I have to say, with the greatest of respect, that views on values etc,
shoudn't necessarily be taken as 'gospel'.
I get the distinct impression there may be, just a touch of a
'vested interest', with some of the opinions on current, 'what's hot' and
'what's not'.

I trust everyone, I trust no one.

Would like to add a Pepsi, but will not pay the premium. Tried to justify it vs BLNR and couldn't. Bought the BLNR and will add one later if I truely want one. Vintage is cool to have, but the new GMT2 has a superior bezel and bracelet in my mind. Same goes for the sub, but at the moment the vintage sub is less than the ceramic if its not a super rare example.

It's all about the aluminium insert and it's metallic shine and "soul".

I own a 16710, and I agree with this assessment.
