Keep watching friends :)
There’s no mystery or intrigue and secret? Secret? This has been the most open Secret ever. I was told of a collector who bought 4 of these recently. Don’t believe in me, one person cannot make a watch become extremely sought, just keep your eyes on the used market. Watch the trend of this watch over the next 12-18 months. Trust your eyes. |

No oddity.
No real "errors". No scarcity. No high demand. = Nonsense. As the saying goes, you're entitled to your own opinions, not your own facts. |

Keep watching. Let’s see this play out. I’d wager a bet with anyone that prices will reflect this as being true. Continue to watch! |

The next Rolex vintage collectors will be fighting over...is not the watch in the first post, but rather the 16610LV.

Interesting. I'm going to go with he YM2. Complicated Movement-Check. SS Professional Model-Check. Less sold-Check. Less popular-Check. Long-term collectors item-perhaps

You keep us updated MJ. Personally I'm not buying it one kilobyte because I rate the SD4K even much higher and in my opinion the quintessential Explorers are Ref 1016 followed by the 14270. Ah...Yes.I have something really special to show you. Look at the photos below. As the watch is rotated from left to right, the Spartan 3-6-9 Arabic numerals almost magically disappear. Can you identify the watch MJ? How do you rate this model in comparison with your argumentative persuasive beliefs?

The 1991 Explorer 14270 effectionetly know as the blackout is rearer still.
The 3 6 9 are black filled - hence the name. This is one of my favourite in my collection, no papers though. Regards |

Absolutely Sir and I've been told the silver print dials are even super rarer than the white print dials that followed

Who's knows, really?
I note your avatar is what appears to be a cream-dialed 16550 Explorer II. People cough up a pretty penny for those now, and if (i can't tell from the picture) it's also a rail dial, even more pretty pennies. A cream-color, rail dial Explorer II is a great example of what can happen with any short production run ref especially if many examples of the "weird" attribute get changed-out during subsequent servicing by those with no crystal ball. That standard, cream Explorer II is worth as much, usually more, now than Sub or GMT contemporaries also from the mid-late 1980s, add the rail dial and as much (or more) as a new, grey dealer-priced Daytona 500C. Of course I'm not saying it WILL happen, but there are watches out there that get little attention and less bandwidth than Daytona and Sub and GMT predicted "collectibles" that collectors are willing to pony up for down the road. Just like there's no surefire bet for, there's no surefire bet against the short-hand, non-lumed 3/6/9 Explorer becoming a sought-after piece down the road either. |

Had the wg numbered dial. Prefer it to the current version, even with the long hands. It's going up in price but so is everything else. I don't think it will be as much as a collector's item as the blackout numbers since that appears to be really rare. Yes it's limited, but not that hard to find. That and for the most part an Explorer I is a "neutral" model- few people hate it or love it but there is a quiet respect for it.
You need a model that people hate or really don't like in SS- think early Daytona, Milgauss 1019, etc. |

used short handed no lume Explorers are cheap up here in Canada. Under $5900 CAD.
To be honest, I never understood the gripe about the short arms. A mm or two did not make a huge difference and think that is just splitting hairs. Lumed 3/6/9 was the big improvement for my needs. |

I'm sure the price of these will go up. But not because of the hands.

Rolex installs longer hands on the T-Rex models during service. They won't swap the dials, however. At some point you'll start seeing more original 39mm Explorers with white gold 3/6/9 and proper hands as they get serviced and owners get their watches back with longer hands (unless they specifically request otherwise).
If anything, the WG 3/6/9 marker dials might be worth more to someone at some point in time but, as mentioned above, it won't likely be due to the hands. |

I'm nobody's fool and ain't impressed with reasonings. I get the feeling the disproportionate handset to dial ratio was just an oversight so Rolex simply made them aesthetically more pleasing the next time round.
DSSD D-Blue Ref 116660 with a short life span Aug 2014-Mac 2018 ? I'm sure you must have realized among the other finer details, Rolex also tightened up the length of seconds and the minute hands of the D Blue Ref 126660 to allow perfect alignment. In other words, instead of falling slightly short of the inner and outer edges of the chapter ring indices, now both the minute and seconds hands have been extended by 1 mm beyond the minute track. So is Ref 116660 also an anomaly MJ and the next future collectibility? What say you MJ ? I have D Blue Ref 116660 but I'm not interested in having high powered top secret discussions with Jay Z , Lenny Kravitz and Eric Singer |
