First off congrats on your big purchase. All that matters is that you’re happy. I would’ve demanded a discount on the TT piece especially if I’m buying two in one purchase. It’s not like you were buying the Daytona C, Hulk, Batman, Skydweller, or SD43....

In buying watches, paying retail is the norm. Discounts are just little bonuses in the game. Congrats x2.

I think its very hard now, esp as Rolex will take a dim view of any ADs doing this so most ADs won't risk it and are probably confident they will sell them with no other competition now.

With few exceptions, I'd say that only suckers pay full price.

I very recently had two ADs refuse me a discount on a SS Datejust, I was even buying two and was quite upfront about that. I had previously purchased at least 3 watches from each of these dealers, so I had some history with both. One of them was perfectly straight forward with me and said due to the shortages in all the other models we can't allow discounts on anything right now. I thanked him and called a grey, had two DdJs the next day, 11% combined discount.

Thanks for all the comments. Next time, I will not look like a have-to-buy-it person so I can negotiate a little bit.
P/s: sorry for no pics because it requires 10 posts in order to post pics and I didn't want to spam.

They knew he was getting a 16% VAT refund.....they obviously thought that was more than enough.

I am in the UK and recently purchased a Blue faced TT Sub from an AD.

Retail is £9900, I paid £9150.

I have purchased 2 watches off them previously so have a small relationship but not I'm in no way a major player like some.

Congrats

Full retail is becoming the norm with many ADs. Enjoy them and don’t worry about if you got a good deal. They’re already paid for.

I’m guessing it’s cyclical- wait till the next downturn and I bet those same ads will be offering a discount.

of course. Any business gets as much as they can for their product when they can get it. Any AD that discounts in todays market for anything remotely popular doesnt deserve to be in business.

Msrp is the new Rolex discount. You did well. Did the AD take your stickers off or keep your warranty cards??

Good point reference a foreigner not being able to obtain the warranty card. So, does the AD ship the card after 1 year, with the real possibility of it never arriving?

IMO its a non issue. Most non locals are ineligible to buy waitlist pieces and those are mostly the ones where the warranty card is retained. Hardly any AD is going to put a non-local on a SS daytona waitlist.

No offence guys but you can’t compare different countries!

Here in the UK supply and demand is as such they don’t need to discount so obviously they won’t.

Pretty much all SS models are zero discount, TT and PM are a mixed bag I know my AD currently doesn’t discount TT Subs and the WG Daytona on Oysterflex (didn’t ask about the full range it’s just what came up in conversation)

OP got VAT refund which works out a decent discount which we don’t have the luxury of.

the vast majority don't bother to look at the origin of the OP for context. Then apply "general" advice that is often outdated as the market is considerably different in the past year everywhere, and especially so in the UK where we have been dealing with it for longer.

My AD gives me a token discount a lot of times, nothing to brag about but its because of loyalty. A VAT return tourist gets O% even on a Pt daytona, where as i could get one, not a great one though.

P/s: I got 16% VAT refund.
Usually people who have bought before get a discount
Its like an act of good faith but in your case you should have got a bit more
Anw consider it good you did not pay the VAT
As for the name and shame part of who the AD is
I would name them but not to
Shame them
Its just exchange of info
