If you want it, go for it and don’t worry yourself so much about the resell value.

Thanks

Got me a brand new 2012 YM1 Platinum w/ dial also made from platinum for $6000 last month. YM always retain great value.

It is a killer watch....but I agree resale will not be that kind as some of the other stainless sport models. Very good choice though and I voted with my wallet as well.

Getting a Rolex should not be for investment but to pass down or remind you of a milestone accomplished.

Do it!!! I have the 40mm & 35mm Platinum w/ platinum dial YM1 and the YG YM2 116688 and I never regretted my decision. My first Rolex in 2001 was a two-tone YM1 w/ slate dial.

I think as far as resale goes it seems like your in good shape. The original purchaser already took the hit going by msrp.
Beautiful choice btw...

I purchased a YM and could not be happier. If the "market" brought the price down to $10 I wouldn't care one bit since it would not impact the joy it gives me when I catch a glimpse of it on my wrist.

I say buy, wear, enjoy....and don't look back.

Many people say that the platinum bezel is prone to scratches. Honestly, that hasn’t been my experience. Mine is a few years old and still looks as good as new. I wouldn’t let that deter you from such an amazing piece.

I guess no one actually reads through the threads as op answered his thoughts already.

Buy the best classic GMT 1675 you can find and lock it in your safe. Good chance that in 20 years you even can make a profit.
Kidding aside, the Submariner (Date) is a better option for you and a safer bet in value retention

(The YM is much more beautiful though imho)
I Agree

i am not sure why everyone assumes this

The current resale values are only the result of current fashion

In the 1980s the gold watches were top value and the SS ones depreciated
Today the gold ones lose value and the SS ones are scarce

If there is a global recession, or a chinese recession, or interest rates shoot up, or rolex ups the production, or a million other things, the values will tank

My advise is to (a) buy what you like, (b) buy what you can afford. If you are cant really afford the out and out price and are basing the cost off some theoretical payback in the future, then IMHO you should not be buying.

I know the op decided against it but a 2017 YM for $9k was probably a good deal, right?

Go for the YM. I recently bought a new one gold/gold w/dark blue dial. After wearing it for two months, I just sent it in for service, as it is gaining about 3 minutes a week. While waiting for it to come back, I am wearing a mid-size gold/steel YM that I bought about 10 years ago, and it feels like it lacks substance now. I bought both because I really like the style. Buy what you like, and buy what you can afford. While a good resale value is nice, it should not be the major factor in selecting what you buy.

Here's my two cents.

Resale value only matters when you go to resell the watch. What's your plan with this watch? Are you a flipper? Or do you tend to keep and hold?

I've had my 216570 Polar Explorer II new since 2012. Got a discount at the time. These value wise sunk down for awhile but have recently started to come back up. Not sure I would have any interest in ever getting rid of it. I like it so much that I sourced the other dial so I could have both variations and get them swapped out as desired.

Buy what you like!

I’ve had the silver/grey face for 13 years, for the first 6 or so it was worn everyday. To be honest the bezel is in a bit of a state scratch wise and unfortunately can’t be refurbished back to the sandblasted finish, I was quoted a fortune for a replacement and ended up just leaving it be, so anyone considering one I would take this into account. Not as robust as ceramic.

Beautiful watch but won't retain value like others. I know people say to buy it if you enjoy it but I agree that value retention is a factor - what did you decide to go with?

Its supposed to be a luxury watch. Why are you concerned with it retaining its value?

Resale is a valid concern. However, I don't think you get hurt here, if you are keeping the watch for a few years. It's a beautiful piece and I bought one this year and have never looked back.
