Another point that was leading me to consider the trade is the fact that, in my view, the 16520 has more room for appreciation over the years, while I do not know if the 1680 will still appreciate much more. Of course I can be totally mistaken. However, I can not fail to consider the financial aspect involved in this possible trade.

So, thank you all for the answers and as soon as I get the daytona photos tomorrow I'll post on this thread.
I definitely agree with the rest that have been commenting before me.
Although I do understand that you will not be downgrading on quality/condition, as the zenith is also in good shape, it is worthy to note that it is far easier to find a crispy zenith than a red sub that crispy. Trust me on this one!

The only reason for me to make this trade is if the red sub does not sing to you anymore.

Good luck!

Extremely hard to find a red sub in that condition. Unless the trade is the Daytona +cash I would say no.

That's a great looking red sub. I would hold onto it. It took me over a year to find my red subs.

I was speaking to a friend of mine (who has many expensive classic cars) about my car and future Watch buying in regards to appreciation, he echoed what a lot of ‘successful’ collectors will tell you... forget over thinking the future appreciation.

If you love the item, the chances are many others will (just look at the reaction to the sub) and it’ll be worth what the market dictates.

My feeling is the Daytona will be far easier to pick up for many years. Trying to find a sub like yours will be very hard again. I’d predict a big knot in your stomach letting the sub go!

That said I do think there’s a finite life to this era of vintage, otherwise watches from previous decades would be worth far more. As we know though fashion will change and one day the sub and the Daytona will both look as a bubble back does to most people now. How long is this? Probably when all us vintage sub lovers are dead and pass these on to our children.

In 30 years time this forum will be full of people showing pics of the old Watch they’ve just inherited asking “is this worth anything?” And owners of the latest (remember Rolex always move forward) super wide and bright Rolex will be telling them “yeah it’s an old Submariner, they used to be worth a lot about 30 years ago but nobody wants them now”

So much this! I innerited a beautiful gold pocketwatch made in 1904 that still keeps time -2 seconds per day...and the value of it now is pretty sad. Kids want Apple Watches, not overpriced mechanical baubles.

Sorry but you’re mad if you’re considering that.

Who did the re-brush on the bracelet sides, Stevie Wonder?!

A T serial is not worth it,
I would have said ok for a R or a L serial, your sub is way better than the one you showed us above.

Great comment

And yea.....don’t do it. Your 1680 is pristine and better surely better than mine. Pick up 16520 later without any trade...

If the Daytona were in mint condition and complet set I would have done the trade. But the condition of my Red Sub is far superior than this daytona. Thats why I refused

Seriously. That would have been a poor trade for you. Your sub is mint. Keep it. Period.

I would say yes based on what I see. S, T, W black zeniths are correct serials for patrizzi dials. The pic you provided it appears that the dial is very slight patina'd (aka patrizzi) but could change darker with time or not. Your Red Sub appears to be a Mark 6 dial which is not the most valuable out of the Red Sub versions albeit it is in very nice condition. For both references, it depends on which version of Red Subs...for example a tropical MK2 is going for 50K+...and a R serial Zenith Daytona just sold for $190K at the Geneva Daytona auction.
