Had a BLNR, and flipped it within a couple of months. Wouldn't ever consider flipping my Speedy. Beautiful dial, super legible, and probably the most historically significant watch of all time. And I'm surprised no one else has mentioned the fact that, if you buy right, the money you save going Speedy over GMT could get you another watch (that beautiful new white dial OP or maybe even an Explorer 1), or a lavish vacation.

I have a Sub Date, GMTPepsi and Omega Speedmaster. The Speedy gets the most wear. Not even close.

I love the GMT, but if you already have a Sub, I'd have to say Speedmaster. Original manual wind, Hesalite crystal "Moonwatch" model. The box is so over-the-top, it's worth buying just for the unboxing experience.
Combined with your Sub, you'd be blessed to own two of the all-time classic watch designs. Very different watches. I recommend the Speedmaster even though for me personally, GMT is a more useful complication than a chronograph. And as much as I prefer Rolex, and their minimum oyster-level water resistance across their entire line. The Speedmaster Moonwatch is it's own thing. It has a ton of charm on the wrist, I think they have to be worn in person to be appreciated. Maybe the most instantly legible dial ever made. Has a built-in "date complication" by daily setting the chronograph sweep hand from 1 to 31 seconds. Very accurate. They look and feel superb on a leather or NATO strap. The lyre-shaped case and 3-D dished subdials are beautiful. The chronograph complication is nothing to sneeze at, and comes in handy. They are also dog tough, and look great casual or dress. |

If the CHNR did not exist, it would have to be the SMP.

Add a Speedmaster and a 5 digit polar Explorer II for a perfect three watch collection. The GMT is too much like the Sub.

As an owner of the 3, I would get the gmt before the Speedy- just not the LN as it would be too similar to the sub LN. Of course if you never leave your own time zone and love timing things , then go for the Speedy first. Really can’t go wrong either way

I would go with the Speedmaster. Many versions to choose from and sizes. I have owned the classic 42 mm with both the manual wind movement and the automatic and found that the size was somewhat small for me even at 42 mm. Went with the Speedmaster Co-Axial on metal bracelet in 44.25 and really like the watch. I also bought Omega's version of the glidelock clasp so I can adjust it on the fly. With two bracelet end links and the clasp, shipping and tax I was still under $250.
