Bring him some lipstick and have him kiss the back of it.

I'd want John Mayer's laser engraved signature on the caseback of my future rainbow daytona. Go hard or go home.

I totally understand where your coming from and don’t let the haters derail your idea.

Sharpie will probably stay as long as you don’t wear it.
I hope he spell better.

OP has his mind made up, and I don’t have a practical solution for him. But if it was me, I’d look for a solution to make the autograph permanent, like finding a pen and a finish over the top of it that wouldn’t wear off. Or have him sign a blank caseback?

I agree. I feel like as soon as the signature is etched over that it is no longer really his signature.

Assuming it’s possible, I’m going to try to get a certain celebrity (who also happens to be a WIS) to sign the case back of my Daytona or BLNR. I would then have the autograph laser etched to become permanent.

However, I don’t know whether a Sharpie will suffice on the 904L steel. Has anybody tried something similar to this?
I had someone sign an ipod, it didn't last.

I would never do this no matter how much I admire an artist. Back in ‘99 I was a huge fan of Bush and had my Sunburst American strat signed by the entire band and I ended up regretting it. When I have an opportunity to get a guitar autographed, I buy a Fender pick guard and have them scribble on that. It can be swapped but will never damage the actual finish.

A case back can always be changed but I would get something else autographed to be honest. Something less valuable. Why not the new PRS Silver Sky? That’s a more appropriate place for his signature anyway. Just don’t do it on his original PRS Hollowbody Super Eagle! That would destroy its value!

Also interested in caseback engraving, so I appreciate this thread. Funny how people can completely miss the point of the thread and go off on negative tangents. Show me in the OPs original post where he asked what any of you thought of John Mayer.

I wouldn't do this, why ruin a watch with something it doesn't belong there...

I’m just not going to judge. I can be a fanboy at times when it comes to certain celebrities.

Would I have John Mayer sign my watch ... no, but I’d have Micheal Jordan sign my sneakers for instance.

Newman and Palmer once upon a time meant nothing to many. Rolex wasn't the name it is and there was no such thing as vintage collecting in the 70's as we know it today.

Just relax a little and think ahead. Besides, JM is a wis, and has a BLNR which he is fond of. I see the connection. I would love for Rossi To sign my R1 if I had the opportunity. Many others have no clue who he is or would prefer Marquez to sign their 1000rr SP, a kid idiot whom I particularly despise. It's all relative.

OP, did you follow through with this? I think the idea is unique and cool; watches are personal.

I wonder... if someone purchase a new BLNR from an AD and put John Mayor's name on the warranty card... is that possible??

Why not go to an AD and get a replacement case back, have that one installed so the original remains pristine, and have him sign the watch with the replacement? Change your mind later and you can undo the whole thing by swapping the original case back on the watch.

I definitely wouldn't do it. But if you do, just get a few sharpies and other markers and scribble on some other stainless steel item and see which works best. 904l stainless steel is still just stainless steel at the end of the day.

He’s probably reading this thread and laughing. Just figure out a way to link up without outing him. I personally wouldn’t do it, but I dig his music and WISdom.

@John, I dig the new tune New Light. Great guitar riff. If you want a sig for your vintage GMT from an old vet/ Airline Captain via the GI Bill hit me up but be discrete...We’ll talk watches and have a beer and call it even.
