Barca and Rome were the only places I have had trouble so I'd be very weary, but basically tourists are a mark anywhere, my cousin who is 6ft 4 was with me in Trafalgar Sq and I am clearly not a tourist, and while we took some photos his wife's bag was taken, we didn't see it happen but shows they are always on the prowl.

I’ll never take this risk, or ruin my trip in worry.

Wearing PP in Barcelona?

I wouldn't walk/visit anywhere I wasn't comfortable wearing my Pateks.

They go everywhere I go, no point owning them if you can't wear them.

Brings back memories. Last time I was in Rome I was maybe 18 and couldn’t speak Italian to save my life. I left our hotel looking for espresso and breakfast and to explore a bit. My route back fortuitously took me down the steps right at dawn and it was just a beautiful moment.

Perfect. Wish I could say I was only 18 but it was actually my 52nd b'day.

Barcelona is like the Olympics for thieves. Best of the best.

More than a few people on this forum have had expensive watches stolen there - sometimes very forcibly. Why take the risk?

We’re not talking about violent crime here. I’ve been to Dallas and LA and can guarantee there are way more pickpockets in the places you’ll be in Barcelona. Literally every time I rode the metro or went to the old city I’d see someone in action or getting ready to rob someone.

I was wearing a Ceramic Diver when I visited Barcelona few years ago. Nobody bother or notice. But that's before all the craze about AP/PP/Rolex watches started on social media. I was more on high-alert of getting my wallet pick-pocketed.

im referring to all the anicdotal stories. Pickpockets dont make the news but when its violent or a threat of violence it does. Peoples perception isnt based on pickpockets its based on moped bandits in the news.

You are in closer proximity to people for sure. LA and Dallas dont have subways and trains like Europe. You sit in a car by yourself when you go anywhere. More opportunity not necessarily more criminals.

Pretty sure if it was a no go zone then AD's in the city wouldn't have anyone to sell watches to and they sell a lot of watches.

When in Barcelona I wore my Exp2, I felt very safe there but I know the stories as well. We went to some of the touristy attractions and rode the metro.

I would say the only times I have felt a little uneasy wearing a nice watch was in Tangier. It was just my girlfriend and I so I was much more concerned with our safety then giving away an insured easily replaceable Rolex.

Barcelona, London.... these are known very high crime places with watch thieves. London admits they can't keep up with bothering to investigate them all(!) due to lack of resources.

Barcelona is notorious for pick-pocketing and organized street crime. These are very savvy groups and they know exactly what you are wearing and what it costs. There is no point of becoming a mark.

Just wear a Swatch or G-Shock and be done with it. I don't care if your watch is insured or not, there is little point of becoming a victim.

Now if you are going there on business or visit close friends, have a fixed schedule and now all the neighborhoods where you will be travelling, I wouldn't hesitate bringing a nicer piecer, but unless you know exact what you are doing, keep the fancy stuff at home.

Just be street smart as you should be these days in any large city around the globe.

I travel to Barcelona 1 - 2 times a year on business wearing my watches (AP, Patek) as I do anywhere else. Is it safe just because nothing happened to me so far? Not really, since a client of ours was mugged on Las Ramblas when his diver Rolex was taken away and he hasn't noticed anything until much later. He wondered if he should cry or congratulate the thieves on their skills.

Again, just be street smart and enjoy your watches, since this is why we have them

Although it can happen anywhere, i would not suggest it because we’re not familiar with the place/city while traveling. I usually wear seiko. If anything bad happens, at least it doesn’t completely ruin my mood :)

Easily, obviously. They were 'slow' actually and relied on a 'brute force' attach, as a very good thief can remove a watch from your wrist and you'd possibly never know.... until it is too late.

I bought by Rolex and walked all over the city in Barcelona. Not a problem. However, you have to use common sense.
