Sorry for your loss, but I agree that you probably don't have any recourse.
Can't stop thinking though that there is a GMT on a hill somewhere, and one day, a lucky bum might find it. What hill was this lost on?

"You repaired my watch bracelet several months ago, and now something happened and the watch fell off while I was skiing. Please replace the entire watch."

"Did the bracelet that I fixed break?"

"I don't know."

"Can I see it to determine the cause of it failing?"

"No. I don't have it. I've never seen it. I honestly have absolutely no idea what failed or why."

"Oh ok. Sure, we'll buy you a whole new watch."

I subsequently had the strap repaired at a main dealer in Vienna who seemed to offer a very good and cheap service - €33 to check and repair the strap.

Unfortunately a few months later when on a run the watch was lost, I did not notice this time.

My question is whether anyone here thinks the Jeweller bares any responsibility for this loss and their service liability insurance should cover it. For the avoidance of any doubt, the watch wasnt damaged by me subsequent to this repair and I believed it was in perfect order.

The Rolex website says that full services carry a 2 year guarantee.

Thanks for your thoughts.

If one wear DSSD the lost of the watch would be noticeable right away
On the serious note, I don't think so. But different country, different rules

Sorry for the loss but it doesn't make any sense to think the repair shop has any liability in this situation. Hope your insurance covers you.

Note to self: do not wear Rolexes while skiing or use cheap repair shops to "fix" issues.

Ethically speaking, I would not hold them responsible unless I'm perfectly sure that they did a bad repair job and that it was the main reason that the watch was lost.

Just thought of something. Try posting an ad in a local newspaper where it went missing or pin a notice in the town hall or similar. There are still honest people out there -although very few- and if one of them finds it you want them to be able to find you. Good luck.

Seems like the first time should have been the warning...Maybe time to buy something less dear for skiing.

If you had the evidence to prove your story you may have a case against the jeweller, as the cause of the loss may have been an unsatisfactory repair - a repair shouldn’t fail again soon after, that suggests the problem wasn’t correctly resolved.

The issue here is that you basically have zero evidence other than no watch on your wrist, a repair receipt and a story. As such it seems almost impossible to make a claim.
