depends on how literal someone is taking what it implies. A sales associate probably isnt well versed in nuance. Money over the phone= sale. Not making an excuse, but that part is plausible to me. The rest is unacceptable.

I understand why you would feel frustrated but I don't think it's productive bashing the AD online. Who knows, maybe the AD reads this and calls other ADs and then all of a sudden no rival store will sell you the watch you want (they do know who you are). I get it - that isn't right and the customer should come first but it is their sandbox and we cannot escape that reality.

I would revisit the AD one day and ask to see their most expensive watch. After 15 minutes of discussing how it's your grail and trying it on, taking photos etc, pull out your credit card and say "I'll take it".
Then just as the sales person is writing up the sale, pretend to receive a TXT message and say "Sorry I just got a TXT from my Grey - he can do it for 30% cheaper. Goodbye" |

Sorry to hear about this. What a let down. Really sucks. Not sure I would have been able to maintain professionalism when he told me he sold it on the last call on the way there. As in that is OK, I will be there anyways....
Good luck finding another watch. May the watch Gods smile upon you.

Wow that is terrible and really poor taste on Tourneau’s part. Knowing you were on your way and getting close by and then selling it to another? That wouldn’t have sat right with me at all. Sorry to hear that, keep at it and you’ll find it!

That's disgusting service. I would be furious. You actually lost time and money for travelling too. Truly awful that they think that is an acceptable way to treat their customers.

What happened was every sales person called around hoping to make the sale.
It was a feeding frenzy. Unfortunately someone else’s person got there first.

A lawyer can chime in here but I believe the AD made a verbal contract to supply the watch to the OP as long as he came in and made the deposit. They have broken that contract. Hard to prove though unless the phone call was recorded

I've only been into any Tourneau location once, on Madison Ave. I was not impressed with the general atmosphere in the store, I was the only customer in the building and not a single salesman seemed interested in selling anything let alone even making somebody feel welcome in there.

It's one thing if they left you a voicemail, you never called back, and then they sold it.
IMO, it's absolutely unacceptable that they KNEW you were on the way and you CALLED AS YOU WERE ON YOUR WAY. Sorry to hear about your experience! |

The salesman stated that they would not do business over the phone. That is the key. He invited the customer down to complete the deposit, which would then act as a contract once the deposit had been paid. As this would form both the offer, consideration and acceptance. The vendor would also share a mutual intent to supply goods. It's crappy what the dealer did... but nothing from a legal standpoint. That said, it is absolutely disgusting service. |

Why would they do that? Isn't the point to build customer relationships for repeat purchases ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Just when you think you have heard the worst of bad AD stories, something like this pops up. I am genuinely sorry for your situation. The lack of morale principle in this case is unacceptable. Made even more ridiculous by the fact this guy knew were on the way, and you kept him updated with your progress.
I sincerely hope you eventually end up with the watch you want, and establish a good relationship with an ethical AD. Cheers, Carl

Many AD’s are behaving badly these days, but that behavior is nothing new for them.

Show them the middle finger and find another way. I'd have a problem forking up serious cash to people who don't respect me. As in - I'd rather not have the watch.

That’s a pretty terrible thing the sales associate did. Sorry to hear that happened. I’d be pretty furious if that happened to me. How long were you on the waitlist to begin with? I’ve been to Torneau once and was not treated very well and have not gone back since. Unfortunately starting over on another ADs list might take longer. I would probably do that still in case Torneau doesn’t come through in the end as this location seems pretty shady
