One of these:
At least he did not call it an Austin Metro, Allegro, Morris Marina, Rover, FIAT, or a Chevy Cavalier. |

The reason he compared it to the Ford Escort is because it's what he's driving home at the end of the day. Who would know better about parts availability for an Escort then an Escort owner? If you don't believe me, just ask him.

I don't think the British folks on here realise what the Americans think of the Ford Escort. To the Americans, the Escort is like a Skoda (used to be) here. I can remember an Escort convertable being a highly desirable car in the eighties in England - my mates mum had one ( XR3i too ) but in America this car was hilarious.
The sub is closer to a Golf which is classy and classless. You could be a Nurse or you could be landed gentry. ( I've never owned a Golf or Sub but always loved both) |

When i was younger we used to call the Escort the clitoris car.
I'll leave you all to work out why.

What ever it was called the one my mom had a long long time ago was in my eyes perfect (until the hedge jumped out in front of the wing).
We had some fun and that's whats its about As for it being driven by unemployed I know a few Escort owners and they ain't! They just appreciate and remember cars from their youth. Nothing wrong in that. Some people also like vintage watches, some people like older cars, some people use them out of neccessity I would have a MK1 or a Cosworth if I could find one. Me I like old cars, but then again I like old watches. I also like new cars, but then again I like new watches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Funny I can never remember them being fleet cars though. That was more the Cortina or Marina! Have fun Si |

No watch is horrible enough to be compared to a British Leyland car, that was awful. Skoda was a better car than BL produced BL is about the same as an FSO Polonez or a Lada. Skoda was just a cheap economy car like a VW, Hyundai, Fiat,Mitsubishi etc. Worst car going now is Kia by a long shot.
BTW Most the watchmakers I know drive a 60K + car |

Maybe that's his favorite car...
I haven't seen one in US for a long time...doubt they last very long. certainly would have almost no value, unlike your Rolex.

As most in England here say, the Escort was a very iconic car from the mid sixties starting with the BDA escorts up until the Cosworth circa 1993 !!!!.
Dont know, i'm just guessing but i would have thought Bodie and Doyle from the Proffessionals who drove RS2000s and 3.0s Capris in the 70s wore Subbies |

MK1 Ford Escorts are legendary cars for the ones that do not know. In the UK you will never find a good MK1 for under 12k GBP!!

My Dad had a Golf GTi and his pal had an Escort Mexico, both great cars and would be happy to have either car today.
