He said they were getting a shipment tomorrow or Friday and will call me and let me know if there’s something in the shipment that will satisfy my inquiry.

He called me back 15 mins later asking if I was interested in a black GMT that he found in the back.

Is he fishing for me to buy the GMT in order for what I’m looking for to magically appear, or is he hoping I settle for something similar to what I’m looking for?

I have to be honest, my intuition was buzzing after our first phone call. It seemed as though the sub(s) I’m looking for could become a reality soon. The second phone call kind of threw me through a loop.

Thoughts?
The GMT is a solid watch and I would not consider it a means to an end but an end in itself. I do not think buying the GMT will get you closer to the subs unless it is a solid or two tone GMT with a black dial.

Like my AD has been experiencing over the past year is people want a Sub, get tired of waiting, then move onto another piece that may be more readily available. The AD is probably checking to see if you've already decided you are willing to be flexible as long as you get a SS Rolex. At least he presented you with an option, few are getting that treatment...

If he offered you that watch with no relationship, he's doing you a favor. They have existing customers who will eventually buy that watch. They're texting their established customers "hey I have this watch, first come first serve." because he was just working with you he thought of you first. If you turn it down, you should be really nice and appreciative and try to build a relationship with him.
Buying an lv from an ad without big spend relationship is almost impossible. Yeah some people got lucky with walk-ins recently, and I bet the manager tore into the salesperson for selling the lv/blnr by itself. I know a lot of people willing to buy a PM bundled with an lv if/when the lv comes in and they don't get the call. The sub no date also really hard to find at an ad because it's such a great entry watch as well as additional watch. Eventually you can probably get a no date without spend relationship. Most people have zero chance getting an lv without extensive spend relationship.

I personally don't think he is baiting you. With how hard it is to get SS sport models all over the world, your AD would have no issues selling it. On the other hand it might be a flipper test. If you get it from him, you are interested in making a quick buck, on the other hand if you don't, you are interested in getting exactly what you want.

Take it for what it is. It sounds like he was just trying to be helpful. At least he didn't rudely blow you off. Getting a call on an LN isn't too shabby either.

Take it if you want a GMT in your collection eventually. Then wait for the LV.

The GMT is a great watch. Although as you said you already have a BLNR. I would drive out to him and inspect the watch and tell him you already own a GMT and that’s why you want a Sub. If you don’t go in person, you may not get the call for the Sub.

He has a GMT in his collection. Did you see right under the part where he said, “Thoughts?”

As noted the GMT is a great watch and not one they are itching to move. I’d hold tight since you have the blnr unless you want to build your report with them. LV might take some time but the 114060 they should be able to produce.
