This is exactly the kind of watch and story I love.
I have my granddad's Cartier Pasha. I didn't like it at first thinking I was too young, but frankly I haven't taken it off in 10 years.
Rolex is a summerday, the Pasha is more like eastern winter.

That’s awesome. When I bought my Explorer II Polar I introduced my son to my salesman as the watch’s future owner.

Actually, this is pretty cool! My Dad still has and sometimes wears his Father's thunderbird. I've worn it a few times. I never got to meet my grandfather, but holding his watch in hand is always a special feeling.

My grandfather's is the SS with grey dial...

You’re very fortunate to have such a family heirloom and the memories to go with it. And your Dad had a great eye for watches.

Getting my dad's Rolex Air King when he upgraded to the DD is what caused me to travel the ways of the WIS way way back. The emotional and sentimental attachment trumps all!

Thanks my friend! He's owned close to 100 Rolexes over the years. He's been collecting since he was a very young man. He has a few that he wore regularly but This was definitely his daily driver.

My Dad wears a Seiko Quartz

I did toy with the idea of buying him a Rolex for his 80th so he could leave it to me, but he said he preferred the Seiko

haha I'd be lying if I didn't say I love that his watch as it is a really cool Rolex, but at the end of the day an heirloom is an heirloom. I'm sure that Seiko is just as meaningful!
