Never felt guilty about it in the slightest. It is only a watch after all and the majority of people do not know what make it is.

Hi MM,

Welcome to TRF. No guilty feelings on my side. I work hard for my $$$ so my Rolex purchases are a rewarding experience. Some go for cars, antiques and whatever that floats their boat....I go for rolexes!

There is nothing to feel guilty about. Since you can afford it, and he deserves it because you both have worked hard for it, then by all means, get it! You both have earned it! Don't worry about what other people might think.

I have never felt guilty about owning nice things and I give plenty to help those less fortunate than I. My wife and I are fortunate to be able to have the necessities covered and have enough left over for a few luxury items.

As was stated, if it won't be a financial burden down the road and all the important things are covered, by all means treat him to a special present. He will treasure it for many years and you get the joy of giving it to him. I wouldn't feel guilty one moment.

Good luck and wish your hubby Happy B day from me!

Exactly - I've worked years to be able to enjoy a Rolex. Most of my friends wouldn't know one from a Casio. However, I'm now thinking vintage. Unfortunately, I'm now addicted to watches and guitars!

sometimes, when i'm in a more introspective state of mind, my rolex reminds me of just how greedy, avericious, vain and superficial i am. at these moments i do feel guilty.

You should buy him a Patek Phillipe instead.

Wait, there's a recession on now, so you'd better go with a Rolex and save a few bucks.

Problem solved.

Great gift for the hubby. I'm sure he's going to love it. Keep us posted on what watch you both decide on. Best of luck on your search.

No. Of course not. And I say that as a liberal, registered Democrat, lol.

If you really have a problem with guilt, try balancing it out. Make a matching donation to a charity you believe in, or do some volunteering.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! I paid my way through a college that costs $25,000/year for undergrad and I earned every f***ing penny I've got. There was a time in my life when I ate once per day when a friend who worked at a restaurant brought me food on the way home from work. If someone's got a problem with my watches, I've got a couple of words in mind

I would wager most Rolex owners feel the same. That being said, that's pretty cool you're getting your husband a Rolex. There was a time when I felt they were too expensive...but I wanted one. I wanted to get a Tag or an Omega, but my wife said, "Don't buy a compromise...if you're gonna spend that kind of money on a watch, why not pay a little more and get the real thing."

I take it you're a Liberal/Socialist/Democrat.

Myself, I'm a Conservative/Republican.

There's an old saying in politics. It goes like this..........................

"Want to know how to pi$$-off a Democrat?? Easy, work hard, make money, be happy, and enjoy life!"
Nice way to introduce yourself to a new member requesting advice on a prospective purchase. I find it difficult to see how your political perspective based on a perceived notion of liberal vs.conservative view points is an appropriate response.

Hi if you tell people about it and they are happy for you and interested in it then they are your real friends. If you tell people about it and they squirm and pull their noses up or change the topic then they are jealous. Jealousy doesnt make for good friendship

Can you guys help me out on this?
I'd like to share two thoughts concerning your post: (1) That the economy is bad, in my opinion, should not be a factor for your consideration. You need only ask yourself whether this watch is affordable for your unique financial situation. (2) Obviously, some part of you wants to move forward with this purchase otherwise you would have posed your question to a less biased audience. Afterall, as Rolex owners and proponents of the brand, you can rest assured you will receive the motivation here confirming what you already know you want to do. So here's your permission: If you can afford it, take the plunge.

Good luck!

I have one that was a gift as a reward of hard work, never felt guilty about that and the others are rewards of my hard work, don't feel guilty about those. My wife and kids are taken care of, so is my house and other affairs so I am proud to be able to afford a Rolex or other luxury watch. That said, I could let them all go if I had to and be happy.

This is a very good question...

I sometime feel guilty for wearing such a lavishing watch, it's worth as much as a car or 2 family vacations. But, I have earned the priviledge because I buy them with my own sweats.

I hope you can give your husband the Rolex...because you love him.

Give now because once they're gone...they're gone.
