I would walk away from this deal. Too risky.

How can I be sure that I am buying the genuine article and that it has official warranty (watch is from 2017) and that it is not stolen?

Was thinking to go to a London AD and get them to look at it but what is the procedure?
Do we both walk in and anounce that we are looking to do a deal in their shop and can they verify the provenance? Or do we undertake some weird ritual where we try to sell to the dealer and see if their checks unearth any problems?
Just wondering why a AD would help two strangers do a deal on their premises without nothing in it for them? Or are they happy to help?

Seller has suggested we go to a jewellers in Hatton Garden (London jewellery district for non-UK readers) and get one of them to appraise but still thinking why would they do this unless we were asking them to buy it?

Just a little unsure as my first time buying from a private seller and don’t want to be taken for a ride?
Maybe I missed something, but is this a difficult model to find? - what is it?

What’s the price?

Cheapest white dial SS Daytona on Chrono24 is £18750 and that’s from Xupes, who I believe have a solid reputation. You could get one from WF for a grand more.

I would recommend you to purchase from a trusted seller, there are quite a few established sellers in the UK. You can visit and try on the watch in person. Good luck

The only thing worse than buying from an unknown seller is selling to one. The great myth of watches as an investment for short term flippers, never seems to fully elaborate on the number of rips.

Yes, if you are going to spend near on 20 grand then be totally safe, this really shouldn't even be a consideration, when there is some doubt, there is really no doubt.

and if you're being offered it for considerably less than this, I'd take that as a massive red flag too...unless you're lucky enough to be buying at retail price from an AD, there's no such thing as a bargain 116500...

Does he have his original purchase receipt from the AD?

Was a good deal - £17500 for a 2017 model but wasn’t comfortable with a private seller for a deal this size and my experience..
As stated these can be had for £18500 so only £1000 cheaper.
In the end, decided to get from a bricks and mortar in the small chance there is an issue.

Buy the Seller or Buyer. I find myself dealing with only trusted dealers even if I may lose some to allow for the seller profit.

You ever heard of armed robbery and stick ups? European crime laws are VERY lax compared to the US.

Due diligence on watch and buyer is all that’s needed nothing wrong buying privately to keep things in perspective - a few bad stories from both dealers and private is not the norm no need to create false panic long as you follow any normal checks as you would with any purchase.

Security issues aside, my personal rule now is to only buy new or nearly new from private sellers. Can’t tell how many times a watch has been opened for the pre-owned of 5-10yo watches

Before I pay for any Rolex in a private transaction, I always make an appointment at my local AD and have the watchmaker open it up and verify it. It costs $100 US but the piece of mind is priceless.
