Just my $.02

I would never expect a lost stone on used jewelry to be replaced by the jeweler/seller. Seems like a tough case to make with wear and tear and all. That said, my mother once did it to a jeweler over a small lost diamond like this. I was embarrassed, but it worked for her. At the end of the day, wholesale on a small diamond like that is generally surprisingly cheap.

This was the watch. Lots of diamonds to fall off. We no longer own it now

I stand corrected on my diamond replacement statement

I bought my first rolex in july 2018 for my 20th birthday, from a watch trader in london, via instagram. Has 25,000 followers.

Its a datejust 36mm in steel, with a custom diamond bezel and diamond dial, for £4,000. With a 1 year warranty. ( no papers only box)

the first problem came about 1 month in when I noticed the watch was running fast (It adds about 15 minutes a month) so skip forward to december 2018 the trader I bought it from agrees to send the watch for a service to get it running correctly. In january 2019 I get the watch back thinking everything will be fine. Now the watch is still running fast, has added 15 minutes this month again.

Yesterday I looked at my watch and noticed a diamond was missing from the diamond bezel, I message the trader saying a diamond has fallen out will this be replaced, he says with the watch running fast I can take it back in for a service, but for the diamond It wont be replaced as 'You might've hit the watch somewhere causing the diamond to fall out'.

I run an online business so I work from home, I'm a very light wearer of the watch, there's no chance I banged it anywhere. He told me the diamonds have been 'professionally' set, I told him whoever 'professionally' set it clearly hasn't done a good job, since a diamonds fallen out after 8 months of very light use.

He hasn't replied since I wrote that message.

Can you guys let me know If I'm in the wrong to expect the diamond on my bezel to be replaced? Or have I just basically been scammed. (considering my watch has gone in for a service and come out still running fast)

Thanks for any replies.
Sorry to hear of your mess, but do you ever wonder why a used old watch is so much cheaper than a new one?

I heard this saying that went something like you get what you pay for...

Hope it works out, but I woudn't expect it to.

Oh no.

Sorry to here your situation. As for a RSC in London, I have used the London Rolex service center in St James's Square. I found them very good, you just walk in and usually they will look at it while you wait and hopefully give you an appraisal of your watch then and there.

You bought a watch with an aftermarket bezel and dial with many set diamonds .......... then ask the seller to replace a lost stone ?

) Find a reputable independent to service the movement.

) Find a jeweler to replace the stone.

) Enjoy your watch thereafter

Somehow I read it was the dial diamond... If bezel, you're probably screwed if it's not a legit place. Sounds like there actually willing to talk, so hopefully it works out.

Ok. If you highly doubt it's fake then your in the wrong forum. You have a aftermarket diamond bezel. You need the opinion of a diamond jewellery expert not a watch forum. Good luck with this.

did you get a receipt for the service????

Dont take his word the service got done! 30 secs a day is HORRIBLE. Nothing got done!!!

Saw the picture, I dont think RSC will work on an aftermarket watch like that, but I could get wrong.

My guess your only recourse is with the Seller and your own reputable watch repair shop.

it looks questionable but the pictures arent resizing properly so its distorting the image a bit, post some more on the forum so you can add pics in the thread or use a different image host.

Edit: whats the sellers instagram?

Love that you count the guy you bought this clearly dodgy watch off as legitimate based on how many Instagram followers he has. Would you buy a Rolex from @Emrata?

Running fast like that could be a sign that it needs to be degaussed.

Well, I’d say, yes you are in the wrong to expect the diamond to be replaced. You bought a modified used watch from an unknown seller. And scammed? Well no, I don’t believe you were scammed. You got a bad deal, that’s for sure, but not scammed. The only good news is, you’re young and will recover. Also, you be a more savvy buyer in the future. Best of luck, and search you tube for videos on how to buy used or vintage watches. There are a lot of experts out there that have very helpful advice on this topic.

Interesting watch however I've never been fond of watches with diamond bezels. As they're both an aftermarket bezel and dial, both would create a problem with RSC servicing. I'd much rather spend the money on a better Rolex than dressing up a so so one. It'd be nice to know who the seller is; not sure why their name hasn't been brought up after this bungled business.

Every Rolex I've owned has been able to stay within 5 seconds/day. The movements haven't changed drastically since the release of the 30xx series.

If I were you OP I'd get it checked out asap. We already know the dial and bezel aren't authentic so pictures aren't going to help us here. Going to need to get someone to open up the caseback and check out the movement, preferably an RSC.

Might be worthwhile simply buying a demagnitizer and see how that affects the accuracy of the watch. They're cheap investments. Oh and as far as having been scammed, if you were mislead than "yes," if not than, "no."

Rolex will insist on it being put back to original at your expense if you take it to them. That’s route I’d go and did on a sub that I bought. The good news is you get a warranty with service and don’t have to worry if your watch is authentic. If you like it with the diamonds and aftermarket dial, take it to an indy watchmaker and have it serviced. The other problem the dealer told me with aftermarket bezels is water resistance. Lots of risk on a watch I’m sure you spent thousands on.

This.

A good indicator is to check some of the followers for bots, ie. profiles that appear to follow thousands yet has no followers of their own, or the ratio of likes vs followers. On average, a photo should be liked by between 8-10% of its followers.

Honestly, that dial and bezel look like garbage. If you can return it, do so. I wouldn’t touch anything with a diamond that’s not factory.
