I´d sell the LV and add some cash for the 5167 at list price even if it means waiting.

As much as I love the 5167 I wouldn´t pay more than the list price.

I'm a big Patek fan and I say no. Maybe for a 5711 or 5712.

Monetarily it’s a fair trade when looking at msrps Even secondary market prices it’s a fair trade.
If you want to change things up go for it. ideally, like others have said if you could add cash and the LVc for the trade it’s an easy decision.
If trade both and you could add the pepsi again at msrp it would be an easy decision.
Ultimately your choice? Good luck!

I would sell them to fund a hypothetical 5167 at retail maybe, but might as well flip them for a 5164A and add some cash... that i would absolutely do.
I too would only change these two for a 64 altho you would need to add more cash, but the Rolexes are all a bit similar so I wouldn't begrudge you wanting to trade into a PP.

To be fair msrp vs msrp is a fair trade it feels. Thats if you wanted the 5167.
Or secondary to secondary also fair. Thats if you wanted the 5167.

The question is really ... do you want the 5167.

How bad do you want the 5167? Are you willing to use the money you have "made" on the other two in order to get the 5167 at a premium? If you really want it that bad and it will put a smile on your face, then go for it. But if you get caught up in the value part of it all and its going to bother you, then don't.

This makes the most sense.

And whoa, there's some serious, 5167 vitriol being expressed in this thread.

Personally, I can't fathom wearing a green watch, and I can barely imagine wearing a red and blue watch, so yeah, I'd probably make the trade, or at the very least, sell the other two and purchase something else.

no trade if it were me. However I would consider selling one of the Rollies (probably the LV in my case) and put it towards a "non-sports" Patek, if the brand name cachet means something to you. Maybe something like 5196p, or world-timer.

But I’d not lose those two for that one.

Another vote for no. If you regret, it will be difficult to get those two Rolex back. Plus I would never trade two hot pieces for an entry level sports patek.

GMT trade value around 15-16k
Hulk at around 12

I would want around 3-4k cash back if I got an aqua unless it was BNIB.

Agree, trade is pretty much even minus a few thou.

The Rolexes are basically the same watch with a different colored bezel so I understand the notion of wanting a change.

I’d do it.

I think entry level is a bit misleading considering most new Patek clients cannot get on a list to purchase a 5167.

I would, absolutely. I love the 5167 and I loathe ceramic bezel Rolex watches so yes, I’m heavily biased.

If you bought both Rolex's at retail prices, and prefer the PP 5167, you might be able to justify the trade as your cost basis will be basically at what current retail is for the 5167. Especially because most people do not currently have any status with AD's to source one themselves. Maybe one day dealers will remember that it was just 15 months ago where they didn't have people walking in everyday to get a steel watch and these things were NOT hard to come by.

The bubble may burst, it may not. People also seem to think bubble bursting means prices revert back to trading at retail, where they have historically traded (+/- 10%) - that could be a completely false assumption. If prices continue to march meaningfully higher where you see 5167's in the mid to high 30's, and the bubble pops...you may see some retracement but not going to fall 50% quickly. Furthermore, the idea of bubbles popping in the watch world is most certainly not an immediate flash correction. Stuff will just get softer and sit for longer...it will be a slow move down.

Its been discussed before, but its asking prices that are sliding higher, but not a lot of stuff selling at new highs it seems.

My personal feelings is no but I'm not aquanaut fan. But yeah the guys above got it right, it's a fair trade value wise if you decide to go through with it.

And the reason it seems hard to get is cuz it's the cheapest thing you can pretty much buy. I've never missed selling mine.

If the 5167 was at retail, for sure. Not above retail

After owning 4 Rolexes, it is hard to imagine going back now that I am into PP and AP. Rolex is great, and tough, but not in the same league. Like Mercedes or Porsche vs. Rolls and Ferrari.
