I would love to own a Nautilus at some point. In fact, I strongly considered consolidating a few pieces to get there recently but in the end decided the premium was too steep at this point in the market cycle to make sense (for me anyway). I personally wanted the 5712. But at $55K+ preowned I just couldn't justify it. Especially considering that I would be giving up some nice modern Rolex's to get there. I did expand into AP last year with a ROO. I'd say I'm pretty content with what I currently have but I would like to end up in the Patek line at some point. I think an everose DD40 and a 116618lb are lined up first though. If Patek pricing (on the secondary market) pulls back any in the near-term that might change things. But I doubt we see that soon... who knows.

Nautilus yes, aquanaut no. I just never warmed to the look of the aquanaut.

I don't get Patek.
The AD in my area is also a very unfriendly bunch .Only went in there once many years ago and I had a security guard at the door and two right behind me glaring at me .Really felt uncomfortable. The atmosphere wasnt very welcoming and I cant see myself spending money in such a place. |

I bought a Rose gold 5711 and then a SS 5711, and was disappointed with the overall appearance, and they felt fragile. But I really wanted to have a PP.
after a year I sold both and bought a day date 2 platinum. PP was just not what I expected, but beautiful wooden presentation boxes! |

The difference is the Rolex is a totally machine made perfectly done watch (which is a really, really amazing thing), and the AP/PP is a largely handmade and finished watch that can sometimes have a little character. Both have their merits...however the Patek finishing (dial, case in particular) and AP finishing (the whole damn thing honestly) brings a special factor that Rolex doesnt ever quite manage, and that does really count for something months or years down the line. Granted, the Rolex makes what I'd call easily the most robust sports watch, and that has HUGE merits. Ideally, you have a sport Rolex and then a more special PP or AP to supplement it haha.

If the Nautilus was readily available, perhaps. But I have walked away from that notion and not looking back. There are too many other fine watches available and I'm not in a position to spend grey market money on a SS watch. I'm over it.

Don't care for Aquanaut one bit. Owned Nautilus briefly, did not do anything for me.

You can’t beat the durability of a Rolex. I wore my first Submariner Date SS exclusively almost never taking it off from 1991-2016. It has been around the world many times over and has never been pampered (I used it while playing many sports, doing yard work, home remodeling etc) It was serviced once and still keeps perfect time and is in outstanding condition. You will never be able to do that with any PP reference and PP has awfully expensive and long service times

I own an aquanaut. Stunning watch in its simplicity. On the strap it is so incredibly comfortable.
That being said I tend to wear in summer months only. Rolex or Grand Seiko more the everyday watch.

I like the Aquanaut quite a lot, but the Nautilus less so.
It hardly matters, though, since both are well beyond my budget for any watch.

How many Rolex owners own (or want to own) a nautilus/aquanaut
5990 is probably the one that would appeal to Rolex owners the most i would assume. Its got the heft they are use to, wears like a sub. Obviously im biased though but its part of why the thin nautilus watches i never bonded with. Still stunning pieces though.

I’m not a fan of the Aquanaut but I’d take a Nautilus. Unfortunately for the premium they are getting there are a lot of pieces I’d easily put in front of it if I had to write the check.

Great watches.
I though prefer Rolex for my Sports watches and Patek for dress style and their annual calendars and grand complications lines |

I own a 5711 blue and 5164a. Those are my favorite steel sports watches, along with my 16710 Pepsi and a white 116500. The rest of my collection consists of chronos and dress watches

I would love to add a 5712 but as I am fairly new to collecting and have limited funds, I would rather have add a few more SS Rolex's instead of splurging on a single watch.

I would love the Nautilus just the 5711 Blue and the AP RO 15400 Blue. Not too bothered about the rest but definitely like those two

I have the SkyDweller and the white dial Nautilus. I feel more comfortable with the SkyD as an every day watch. The Nautilus is just SO easy to scratch; the bezel feels like it is made of wax. Scratches on the Sky D so far have been limited to the clasp, which I don’t mind nearly as much.
Having said that, I really enjoy the Nautilus; I just wouldn’t take it skiing, golfing, etc., whereas I have gone skiing in the SkyD and would be comfortable golfing with it if it could tell me how far I was to the pin. I had 2 opportunities to buy Aquanauts last year, but I passed on both because I don’t like the numbers or the color brown on a watch. My brain tells me I’m an idiot for passing, but my heart tells me it was the right thing to do.
