Discontinuation of all-black GMT understandable

I believe that all-black GMT on oyster bracelet is gone for good! This is it folks! Rolex is trying to differentiate the Sub from the GMT. This is the most logical reason why Rolex would discontinue the 116710LN.

Have to remember that Rolex discontinued all 3 mono colour (black) bezel GMTs, not just the SS so I say that mono colour GMT will be gone for at least in the short - mid term.

Only bi colour bezels going forward for now I reckon although I do hope they are not only releasing jubilees as I'm not a fan. I'd be hoping for a SS Coke on Oyster next year!

I always suspected that they might "re-tool" the LN and standardize it without the anniversary colors. When the BLNR came out, followed by the white gold BLRO, I suspected we were heading in this direction. I am just surprised they are putting the LN on an indefinite hiatus. The LN bezel is an extremely practical bezel for someone who wants a lower profile GMT-Master II. I always thought we'd see it with a red GMT hand and white text on the dial. Bringing it back with these modification and an Oyster bracelet would make sense given the rest of the current lineup.

Yellow gold and TT yellow gold/SS has existed for a better part of a couple decades. I think this is just a short hiatus and not complete discontinuation of the line. Rolex tends to offer a balance with the 3 types of gold. Yellow gold being the most iconic of the colours, you will see it back very shortly and combined typically with a monotone colour...

Usually singular colours matches yellow gold. Could be blue, black, or even green ceramic bezels.

To me, it's will be remembered as the 50th Anv. green GMT. The bezel was black only because at time Rolex was still working on bi-color bezel.

Wasn't the tt 116713 the first ceramic gmt? I believe it came out a year before the ss black gmt.

I agree with this. As others have said, I believe that rolex will from now on only produce bi-color ceramic gmt's to differentiate it from the subs and seadwellers. The 116713 and 116710 will be known as the 50th anniversary models and won't come back.

I could see the desire to differentiate the GMT from the Submariner by offering bi-colour bezels and jubilee bracelets but I think that this is only a transition. Eventually they will bring back the black bezel and the oyster.

Bi-Color only + Jubilee only makes sense for the GMT in terms of differentiating the GMT from the Subs. I'm just glad I was able to my Oyster GMT's before this. :)

Has Rolex ever discontinued a model then brought it back after a gap of it not being produced? I don't think so, and would've thought that they'd bring out the updated one this year, as they did the BLNR, if they intended to update it.

I think it's gone for the forever, although I would expect that there will be a 126710LN at some point in the next few years, just not with the green text/hand (red is a decent guess). Right now, though, and for the foreseeable future, Rolex is better off using its capacity to produce as many of the in-demand GMTs (BLROs, BLNRs, and CHNRs) as possible. I was super bummed with the Basel releases this year, but I actually think it was brilliant after thinking through it more -- no new releases that will be impossible to get and the streamlining of the GMT line that should make BLROs and BLNRs significantly easier to find.

I do think these are a good buy if you can find one at an AD right now -- grey market values are way up, and I think they'll stay there because a lot of people want a SS GMT on an oyster bracelet, which is no longer available, and just like this model in general (I actually like it more than the BLNR on-wrist). Instead of calling my AD for the new releases, I got on the list for this and snagged the one they got in their shipment yesterday.

I don’t think we will see another green hand or green text anymore. I’m glad I have mine. Also, polished oyster bracelet will be reserved for Daytona and white gold gmts.
