What's the most "luxury watch" you can get for ~$500?

Seiko Presage is a very good option.

My thoughts:

1. Citizen Oceanus (OCW-S100-AJF) - a solid Japanese eBay seller can get you in one for pushing $100 less than Seiya.

2. I bet you could find a minty, used Jean Richard Terrascope for around $500.

3. As mentioned above, I love my Hamilton manual wind Khaki Field (no date, 28,800 ETA movement model); MSRP is $475, but you can def do better than that.

And given this lack of information, I'd agree with this. I honestly think the average person would view an Apple Watch as more impressive and luxurious than anything from Seiko, Hamilton, Tissot, Swiss Army, etc. It wouldn't be my choice but if you're trying to impress the average person with a watch for under $1,000, the Apple Watch is the way to go, especially if they have an iPhone.

Apple Watch isn’t a watch, it’s a wrist computer, that will likely stop working after a couple of years... there is nothing luxurious about them...

Exactly. Nothing comes with the brand awareness of Apple in the 500 dollar price point.

+2 for the Oceanus. It is gorgeous looking, syncs to the atomic clock, solar, world time zones, has a perpetual insta-date, all in a package that says class. Check it. I'm thinking about getting one.

Good friend of mine got automatic Tissot from his parents as high school graduation gift.

It has been his daily and only watch for over 30 years now.

You can get an entry level swiss mechanical for $500 if you do some leg work, but luxury it isn't. Mass produced to a budget, yes. Luxury, no.

As much as I hate to admit it, this is true. I would hardly consider a watch under $500 dollars luxury, regardless of how much money I have to spend. And pedigree has a lot to do with that equation, too.

Agree with many of the Hamilton or Seiko suggestions - some decent items at that price. I’ll only add that you may not want to consider the grey market (even while cheaper) if the new Mfr warranty will be important to the recipient. If there is something wrong with it, some gift recipients may be hesitant to let you know and the mfr warranty would be useful to them
