Personally I find that, in yellow gold, the least attractive watch Rolex makes, however what I think is irrelevant. If you like it, then buy it

OMG the the terms Rolly or Rollie again.
It's an even worse offense than all the watch "nicknames".

It's because of its subtle under the radar looks, it's quite hard to make out which model it is.

This would be a good way for the Swiss watch industry to counter the "threat" (if it is such) of smartwatches - reinforce the idea (through marketing or whatever) that it's cool or normal to wear a nice Swiss mechanical watch on your left wrist and a smartwatch on the right. The threat was always that the Apple Watch crowds out the Rolex for the spot on the left wrist (as the OP alludes to here). If the spot for the Apple Watch is instead the right wrist then the threat is neutralized. :)

To be candid I prefer steel YM over all gold and two tone. I have it. Was back and forth on all gold vs steel. It’s a great daily wear to work and out.

It cost so much because of how well it draws attention away from the sandals

The YM II is considered "darn expensive" a.o. because of the higher manufacturing costs of the unique caliber, exclusively made for this watch.
There is no other manufacturer producing a comparable caliber. Because of it's existing appearance and the high price it is sold only in minor quantities, which is a solid base for becoming a much sought after model in the future. Furthermore the 16680 YM II is an extraordinary and exclusive type of Rolex because of its exclusive style elements within the existing Rolex program. For the moment these style elements of the16680 YM II are commonly unloved and the watch is ignored by the existing type of "common/standard" Rolex owner which feel safe with a focus on Daytona's, BLR'S, Deepsea's etc, mainly because of the existing market trend. Once imo the YM II will be considered as an absolute exclusive item between the Rolex models because in an early stage it had the styling elements that in the next future will be searched after. Generally Rolex will show more diversity in color and appearance and more watches will show some kind of model name on the bezel. Besides Rolex will offer watches with more distinguished characteristic model accents; this will be required by the market widely. |

I had a chance to buy the SS YM-II at retail, but at $18K+ it was too much for me.
