Once you have a few scratches it won't matter anymore. There are plenty folks around here myself included, who see a well used/scratched watch to be just as beautiful as a minty fresh one. The marks on it make it yours.. you will grow to love it and soon you'll be cleaning the engine bay of your car or fixing the lawnmower while wearing it (I got two chips on my crystal doing that at the weekend and I don't care!).
The saying goes 'wear the watch, don't let it wear you'.
If you are too uptight about it, maybe you are not ready for true Rolex ownership.

It’s like trying to keep the miles off a car...you bought it enjoy it, the scratches add character and life. I’m not saying to beat the hell out of it and abuse it, but OCD and watches really don’t work well together.

So this guy doesn't tell you what the protective film is that he glued on his Rolex bracelet. He wants you to SEND HIM YOUR ROLEX and he'll glue it on for you? I wonder how many people have sent him their watches? (And how many got them back?)

Train yourself to put your hands, not your wrists, on the desk and you’ll avoid a lot of scratches. Desk diving is where they get them.

You gotta post a picture of your watch by the way. I think it's written somewhere in the rules.

Wear long sleeves all the time every time. Even then you’ll get minor swirls and scuffs here and there.

The best option that many have alluded to already is to change your mind set. If it’s a watch you plan to keep, enjoy it. If it’s an investment, sell it now and consult a financial advisor. It’s simply not worth stressing yourself out over something that gets resolved when sent in for a service at regular intervals.

I don't want that to happen to this watch, so what do you do about it? At the moment I have a piece of Scotch tape over the buckle, but I'm sure there are less ugly ways than that.

Serious response- that bracelet is going to get hammered if you plan on wearing it. If you want pristine out of a bracelet, not going to happen.

Maybe, but it's also written in the rules that you can't post links to anything (including a picture of your watch) until you've submitted 10 posts, and I'm not there yet. It'll come sooner or later, along with some pictures. (But be warned, one may be of the tape on my bracelet).

If you use Tapatalk, imgur or some other image hosting site you don’t have to have 10 posts and you can post good pictures without being limited by the file size.

Ignore all the detractors. It's your watch to do with as you please.

Small squares of 3m clear "helicopter" tape will be sufficient to protect the clasp from 99% of the small scuffs you will pick up from daily wear and be virtually unseen. Don't put one over the Rolex crown on the clasp - being raised it will protect that section of the clasp and if you cover it that will be noticeable.

Pay attention and enjoy. The scratches and scuffs will occur. Get good with it and focus on something you can actually control.

When I got my first nice watch (sub) I would ding it up daily. I traded it in for a SD4 and now, after having over a year of experience wearing something so expensive on my wrist, I have learned the little tricks. My SD43 still looks like new because I had to train myself to not bang my wrist into things.

I have a very hands on job and am always walking thru right corridors with exposed rough masonry and such. Now I just know how to not expose my watch to it. And when typing at a desk, I will either raise my wrist a bit or put a note pad under it to protect it.

Wrist awareness is definitely a thing.

Once I get past the first few... I stop noticing. All part of the fun. With that said, I don't love polished center links since they are scratch magnets.

I get that scratches will happen on my SubC clasp (after 2 weeks I already have a few). What are the thoughts of using a 3M sponge (green side) to "buff" out some of the scratches? Has anyone done this and if so, what were the results?

I have done this with my other clasps from another brand it worked great, but I'm a bit reluctant to do it to my glidelock clasp.

Try a 3M ScotchBrite pad. Removes scratches on brushed surfaces and does a nice job.

Don't want scratches? Buy a Damasko.

Not sure why virtually no other company besides Damasko hardens their cases and bracelets. Sinn does a surface hardening process however Damasko's method seems superior based on long term pictures that I have seen.

My next watch will most likely be a Damasko, their engineering and small family business model is quite intriguing.

Works for me. Takes little time to cut to fit and lasts at least 6 months. 3M auto protection film.
