Ahhhh... the love or hate Bloodhound!
This is a rare beast in the model line-up, and it has a interesting story behind 'why'. It was purely brought back from the dead to celebrate and mark the Bloodhound Land Speed record attempt project, Rolex wanting to be associated with the Land Speed record to fall in with the branding ethos, was a main sponsor and this resulted in the cockpit 'over ride' dials being designed and produced by them... this watch was designed to echo and celebrate the achievement... so, a kinda special edition, without the 'special edition' tag! (we all know Rolex go in for all that) Now, the project fell into administration, and lost all its sponsors as a result. The Bloodhound project has now been re-started by a private businessman... which will fail as no high profile sponsors have been found after the first failed attempt...WITHOUT the Rolex dials! So you see... this new Air King already has a wonderful story behind 'WHY' it was created... I like things like this, a watch with a 'real' story behind it. Just wait for the dial to be discontinued shortly (I give it until Basel 2020) and see the collectors come out wanting one! |

PLEASE STOP THIS THREAD.
You are all killing me. I used to have an Air-King Date (5700). I sold it many years ago. I was a total idiot for doing that. After reading this thread I have been looking for one in near mint condition with original everything with it. I think i have found one .. Next step ... make a nice dinner for my wife this evening.

The modern Air-King Is a very understated watch with a superb dial look at the 3,6,9 and it's a hour dial ..look at the 5 ,10 and it's a minute dial were you can easily read minute 52.
It's got the same case. Movement and Faraday cage as a milgauss without the PCLS so good for all day wear at work... The Air-King is a great watch and sometimes when I wear mine I think what a fine watch as the matt black dial with the white a day gold numbers and the green and yellow just shouts look at me. Especially in the sun light or in the picture above The people who say too busy etc are not owners.. You need to own this watch to appreciate it's design and quality |

Great comments and pics guys! Love the AirKing story both old and new. And yes....I tried the newer AirKing on and it is very special and fits great on the wrist. Sleeper Rolex that will increase in value after its discontinued I’m sure.

My keepsake. Grandfather bought it in 1969 for my father. Bracelet has stretch so I wear it on leather.

Seems to be a model that draws either hates or likes.
I happen to like it very much. So much that I am considering it as my next purchase. Love the quirky green and yellow treatments.

I wear a 34mm oyster date with a 7” wrist and it fits perfect. Small watches are classic and will always be in style.

I had a white dial a few years ago. Gave it up when the aging eyes had a problem seeing the silver hands against the white dial. A really nice, overlooked watch.

I, too miss that watch. The newest iteration is quite nice, sort of funky-cool in a Non-Rolex way. (A nice departure.) I can't seem to warm up to the Arabic 3, 6, 9 chrome or white gold large numbers however, other than that, a cool watch for those who want something a little different. I walked into a shop on the Plaza in Santa Fe and walked out with the new model. Didn’t hesitate. Never a thought about it being an unpopular watch. It’s popular with its owner. Me!
